The best cheese ravioli are soft, cheesy, and egregiously satisfying. The stuffing should be fluffy and filling without overpowering the tender, sturdy, neatly proportioned pasta wrappers. Done right, the best cheese ravioli are the ultimate comfort food. (Sorry, chicken noodle soup.)
Cheese ravioli are like tiny gift-wrapped presents stacked on a plate. There’s just something so wholesome and lovable about them. Honestly, it’s hard to find cheese ravioli that we’d refuse to eat, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have standards. From refrigerated options to the best frozen cheese ravioli, we’re looking for high quality pasta that doesn’t fall apart in boiling water or simmering sauce. The cheesy filling should hit you with a strong, rich flavor; if it’s too dry, mushy, gummy, or grainy, you better believe it’s not on this list. For those avoiding gluten, the best gluten free ravioli should be just as yummy as traditional options (it’s possible, we promise), with a wrapper that’s tender and lightly chewy. We don’t care how you take your ravioli. You could serve them fresh from the strainer with just a drizzle of olive oil or smothered in alfredo (there’s no such thing as too much cheese). Our priority when we sat down for two separate taste tests was finding you the best cheese ravioli this world (or at least your local grocery store) has to offer. Despite popular belief, the pastabilities are not, in fact, endless. Let’s get into it.

- Trader Joe’s Cacio e Pepe Ravioli
-
Trader Joe’s makes a lot of very, very bad ravioli. One of the few enjoyable ravioli from TJ’s extensive collection of clever but underwhelming ravioli is their Cacio e Pepe Ravioli. They’re actually peppery, which I love. They could have a little more filling and the pasta could be a little more tender, but all in all, these are certainly the best cheese ravioli TJ’s has on offer—and a great option if you’re looking for an interesting filled-pasta option. (If that’s not selling it, just know: We did, very happily, eat the whole package.) —Jordan Myrick

- Kirkland Spinach & Cheese Ravioli
-
Obviously on brand for Costco, Kirkland’s Spinach and Cheese Ravioli come in a big dual pack that easily separates into two servings. (And yes, one serving could probably feed a small family.) I know this is the ranking of the best cheese ravioli, but the standout ingredient here is the ravioli’s fresh-tasting spinach. Along with the ricotta and mozzarella, the flavor strikes the right balance between earthy, cheesy, and umami. I could throw a slab of butter on these and happily eat them plain. (Actually, that’s exactly what I did.) —Ariana Losch

- Sprouts Gluten Free Cheese Ravioli
-
Since we already have a “best gluten free cheese ravioli” in this ranking (see #3), I hesitated to include Sprouts Gluten Free Ravioli. Then I realized that the gluten free community has it hard enough—why on earth would I deprive them of more of the best frozen cheese ravioli that they can actually eat? Anyways, as you’ll see in this ranking, Sprouts has apparently become one of the best ravioli brands on the market, and their GF option deserves some recognition. These cheese ravioli are simple, balanced, and pillowy. While the wrapper is a tad thicker than you might be used to, it has a nice texture and perfect pasta flavor. Since these are big and starchy, you definitely want to eat them with a sauce, though. —Ariana Losch

- Rana Mozzarella Cheese Ravioli
-
Even among the best frozen ravioli brands, Rana’s Mozzarella Cheese Ravioli stand out for their bold cheesiness. The mozzarella brings a little extra oomph to the filling. It’s super savory and very cheese-forward, which makes sense since the filling is mozzarella and ricotta with very little seasoning. The combination of mild seasoning and maximum cheese would make this ravioli great with bold and hearty bolognese. Is ravioli typically served with bolognese? No. And I know that. But I think it should be and I stand by that. —Jordan Myrick

- Great Value Cheese Ravioli
-
You can usually count on Great Value to make a tasty, no-frills version of your favorite comfort foods. The cheese ravioli from their freezer section are no exception. First of all, you get a lot of ravioli for a small amount of money and, like any person with common sense, I love a good deal. Second, these ravioli taste great! They’re cheesy and creamy. The pasta dough is on the thicker side, which I personally don’t mind. You can tell that these ravioli aren’t as fancy as some of the others we tried, but they’re still among the best cheese ravioli we taste tested. —Jordan Myrick

- Sprouts Cacio E Pepe Ravioli
-
The sheer number of cacio e pepe-inspired products I’ve seen lately brings me hope during these dark, dreary days. (It’s my favorite pasta dish, mainly because it’s easy to make and requires a hefty amount of parmesan cheese—my weakness and lifelong substance addiction.) I’ve tried new cacio e pepe mac and cheeses, flavored instant noodles, and jarred pasta sauces, and I can tell you: Not all products nail that balance of parm, pecorino, rich egg yolks, and black pepper. But these ravioli from Sprouts completely hit the mark; for once I’m not reaching for the pepper shaker or shaving a small mountain of cheese on top. Each pocket of pasta is light and thin and way too easy to eat in one bite. These ravioli are pricier than the Trader Joe’s ravioli we ranked at #9—but hey, the best cheese ravioli are worth the extra dough. —Ariana Losch

- Cappello’s Almond Flour Pasta Five Cheese Ravioli
-
Cappello’s Almost Flour Pasta Five Cheese Ravioli really surprised us when we tried them, and they remain the best gluten free ravioli we’ve ever tasted. We truly couldn’t believe how delicious these are. They’re so cheesy! They practically burst when you bite into them, and the cheese filling is super flavorful with notes of freshly cracked black pepper and garlic. The pasta is the perfect texture; you’d never know it’s gluten-free. These are among the best ravioli on the market, gluten-free or not—and my gluten-loving self will be purchasing them again. —Jordan Myrick

- Celentano Cheese Ravioli
-
When I was growing up, the Italian grocery store near my house sold these ravioli and I still love them. I wasn’t sure if they would hold up, but it turns out I had literally zero reasons to worry. Celentano’s cheese ravioli are absolutely sensational. The filling is herby and creamy. The dough is the perfect thickness. The circular ravioli are huge. You could eat these totally plain and be satisfied. That being said, they’d also be wonderful with marinara, pesto, butter, or vodka sauce. These ravioli can do no wrong. —Jordan Myrick

- Sprouts Three Cheese Ravioli
-
I debated and debated (and debated) giving this our top spot. Why? Well, obviously, to get Sprouts Cheese Ravioli, you have to shop at Sprouts, which is not a thing everybody does on a regular basis. You can find our runner up, Celentano, readily available at various stores—plus, unlike these Sprouts cheese ravioli, they’re frozen instead of perishable, which adds to the convenience. Still, at the end of the day, flavor is king. I tried both cheese ravioli side-by-side, and while Celentano is definitely the best frozen cheese ravioli for comfort and nostalgia, Sprouts is truly something special. The pasta is delicate and light, and the three-cheese filling is somehow an implosion of rich, nutty, cheesy, buttery flavors without even being that stuffed. Every bite is heavenly. Be warned: If you make the whole container, you will eat the whole container. —Ariana Losch

I would love a section of Sporked where you can search product reviews/rankings by store. For example, I don’t get out to Trader Joe’s that often, but would like to know all the top ranking foods to try out without having to go through each ranking one by one. Thanks!
