The best Olipop flavors make drinking prebiotics pretty fun. Other people must agree, because the brand’s lineup of flavors has expanded a lot over the past couple of years. We’d previously ranked the top five best Olipop flavors, but it was high time we returned to the tasting table for a more complete look at what the brand has to offer. So, what do we have here? Seventeen Olipop flavors, ranked from quaffable to keep away, including the best Olipop flavor of them all.
I was raised in a household in which diet soda was verboten. In the ’80s, everyone was super paranoid about artificial sweeteners like aspartame (maybe for good reason, I don’t know) and my mother was among them, so it was full-sugar soda or the highway, baby. Today, we have so many more carbonated beverage options than just regular or diet soda, and it’s a beautiful thing. You’ve got your unsweetened fruit-flavored seltzers like Waterloo and Polar; those very sweet (but very delicious) juice-based sodas from Sanpellegrino; those not-too-sweet juice-based seltzers from Spindrift—truly a world of fizzy options.
There’s always room for more alternatives to traditional corn syrup-laden sodas, and Olipop has been a welcome addition to the pack. Besides having extremely cute packaging, Olipop has a lot less sugar than regular soda because it’s sweetened with fruit juices, cassava syrup, and stevia leaf extract, and purports to promote gut health thanks to the inclusion of prebiotics. If you’re unclear on the difference between probiotics and prebiotics, here’s a short explanation based on what I gleaned from our explainer on the subject: probiotics are good microorganisms that live in your gut and promote gut health, while prebiotics serve as food for those microorganisms. That’s cool and science-y, but you mostly just want a soda that’s refreshing and tastes good, right? Well, get ready to burp, because we ranked all the Olipop flavors.

- Doctor Goodwin
-
Let me start by saying that I think most Olipop flavors taste very good, especially for soda made with stevia and other sugar alternatives. Unfortunately, Doctor Goodwin is not an Olipop flavor I would recommend buying. The brand advertises that this is made with 13 not-so-secret flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, prune, cola, and tart cherry, but this tastes like one thing to me: Robitussin. I don’t know who Doctor Goodwin is, but if this is what she’s prescribing, I’m switching my GP to Dr Pepper.
- Vintage Cola
-
For many Americans, cola tastes like Coca-Cola, and that’s it. If you ride hard for RC or Pepsi, that’s chill, but I just don’t think this Olipop flavor is going to hit the spot for people who ultimately crave that crisp Coke flavor. This soda tastes like baked molasses cookies. It just ain’t right! My colleague Josh Scherer told me he likes this and I actually yelled at him. Sorry, Josh, but this can’t hold a candle to the best Olipop flavors.
- Cherry Cola
-
If you insist on drinking a cola-flavored Olipop, buy this Olipop flavor instead of the Vintage Cola. It doesn’t taste like cherry. It doesn’t taste like Cherry Coke. But it tastes way more like cola than Vintage Cola.
- Tropical Punch
-
This doesn’t taste like punch to me and I said as much when I did this taste test on camera. Someone in the comments was like (I’m paraphrasing here), “It’s not fruit punch, it’s tropical punch,” but, frankly, I’m not getting tropical punch either. When I think tropical punch I think POG, aka Pass-O-Guava, aka the Hawaiian juice blend that combines passion fruit, orange, and guava juices. This Olipop flavor is just a fruity tasting something. The can says it contains pineapple, passion fruit, mandarin, and apple juices, but I can’t really taste any of them. Suffice it to say, this is not one of the best Olipop flavors, nor is it one of the especially good ones, but we’ll get to those soon enough.
- Lemon Lime
-
This Olipop flavor tastes good, but it ranks low because it just doesn’t really taste like lemon lime soda, which is what I said when I reviewed it upon its release in 2023. There’s an earthiness to the flavor profile that makes it taste distinctly like lemon tea. If they would have called this flavor “lemon tea,” it would rank higher. But I think this flavor of Olipop will disappoint people who are looking for the crispness and bite of actual lemon lime soda.
- Strawberry Vanilla
-
I love strawberry soda, so I wish Strawberry Vanilla Olipop had more of that strawberry soda oomph. It’s very nice tasting, but the flavor is hard to pinpoint. It’s pleasant, but a bit generic. If you want a fruity flavor with that backbone of vanilla creaminess, try the #6 Olipop flavor on this list.
- Barbie Peaches & Cream
-
I may have said this Olipop flavor tastes like peach-flavored coffee creamer when my colleague Justine Sterling reviewed it, but I actually really like it. It does a good job of combining the flavor of peach ring candy (albeit, not actually peaches) with the flavor of a good vanilla-forward cream soda. Our main criticism is that it’s one-note—all sweetness, no tart peachy flavor. But the Barbie-themed can is cuter than hell!
- Cream Soda
-
When I initially tried this Olipop flavor, I think my taste buds were overwhelmed because I couldn’t quite taste anything besides sweetness in this can of cream soda. After I gave my buds a breather, I took another sip of this Olipop soda and really liked it. It has a pleasant vanilla flavor, and since cream soda is traditionally very sweet, the amped-up sweetness of the Olipop sweetener blend really works in this format.
- Classic Grape
-
This Olipop flavor tastes more like diet grape soda, but with enough juicy realness to bring to mind Welch’s grape juice (one of our favorite grape juice brands) with some carbonation. But it’s sweet—very sweet—which gives it diet soda vibes. If you’re looking for a lower sugar alternative to grape Crush, this is pretty darn satisfying.
- Orange Squeeze
-
Orange Squeeze Olipop is like a mix of sweet mandarin juice (or, better yet, the syrup in a can of mandarin orange sections), orange soda, and something very nostalgic, like Tang but minus the tang. It’s a sweeter version of every orange soda you grew up loving, but with a milder citrus flavor. If you think that orange soda is just too punchy, you’ll like this Olipop flavor. It’s gentle.
- Banana Cream
-
I didn’t know what to expect from a banana cream soda, but this is about as good as I think a banana cream soda could be. It’s not a slap-you-in-the-face Runts candy sort of banana flavor; it’s sweet, yes, but it’s more like very sweet banana pudding or banana cream pie, as the name suggests. This is a fun novelty, but it’s more than that—it’s actually very drinkable. I could kill a whole can of this easily and I didn’t expect to be able to say that about a banana soda. The best Olipop flavors are unique and this one is definitely unique.
- Cherry Vanilla
-
This is another Olipop flavor that scores big points for uniqueness. I know the word unique is overused to the point of being meaningless, but have you ever had cherry vanilla soda before? I haven’t! And what I love about this is that it doesn’t taste like your average black cherry soda—it tastes like cooked cherries. Like delicious, decadent cherry pie filling. I mean, it smells like pie filling when you open the can! This Olipop flavor is super tasty and pretty different from anything else on the market.
- Classic Root Beer
-
After tasting Olipop’s take on cola, I wasn’t holding out much hope that their root beer would be any good, but this stuff is impressive! It’s absolutely packed with classic root beer flavor. Sure, it lacks some of the bite of A&W and Barqs, but it’s a damn good diet(ish) root beer. You can taste the sweet birch, vanilla bean, and burdock root—it’s a beautiful mix of flavors that makes this one of the best Olipop flavors to channel a classic soda.
- Watermelon Lime
-
This is one of the most interesting sodas I’ve ever had. You’d think watermelon soda would taste like straight-up watermelon Jolly Ranchers, right? Well, this flavor of Olipop really has the essence of watermelon juice, but punched up with some tart cherry juice. The combo gives the flavor profile a lot of dimension. It’s delicious! My one criticism is that it really doesn’t taste like lime (there’s no tang whatsoever), but if a carbonated watermelon-cherry punch sounds good to you, you’ll love this.
- Crisp Apple
-
Crisp Apple Olipop is extremely delicious. It’s like a cross between a sparkling apple cider and apple candy. It has just a touch of tartness, but it’s very, very sweet. It’s like the most decadent version of apple juice, but carbonated. I think since apple juice is already very sweet, the cloying nature of the artificial sweeteners isn’t so upsetting. This is my personal pick for the best Olipop flavor (I’m a sucker for apple juice), but I also realize it might be a lot for some people.
- Olipop Ginger Ale
-
This doesn’t qualify as a diet ginger ale because it does have some sugar (5 grams) and some calories (50 calories a can), but this is so much better than pretty much every diet ginger ale I’ve ever had. The ginger flavor is so good. You can smell that spicy aroma as soon as you open the can. It doesn’t have the burn of a ginger beer, but it has such a zippy, convincing ginger flavor. Olipop knows ginger. Just take a peek at the best Olipop flavor on our list…
- Ginger Lemon
-
It was a tight race between Ginger Lemon and Ginger ale for the top spot on this list, but I personally think that this tart, zingy flavor combo is just so perfectly suited to a prebiotic soda that it’s gotta be the best Olipop flavor. The lemon isn’t super prominent, so it reads more like a ginger beer without the aggressive bite. It definitely has more gingery pizzaz than most ginger ale and it has only two grams of sugar. It’s great by itself, but it would be good as a mixer for a mule or a bourbon cocktail, too.
