Pepsi has really been teasing us with their upcoming prebiotic sodas. Back in January, I covered Pepsi’s plans to enter the space by reviving the discontinued “Soulboost” beverage brand. I must have bullied that decision too hard because they quickly pivoted to purchasing poppi for $2 billion. As if that wasn’t enough, Pepsi then announced over the summer that we’d see Pepsi packed with prebiotics (in both Original and Cherry Vanilla) before the end of the year.

It’s officially “before the end of the year.” While the retail launch is still slated for 2026, you’ll be able to order Prebiotic Pepsi online as soon as Black Friday. For the ingredient-minded, every can of Pepsi’s prebiotic soda contains no artificial sweeteners, 30 calories, 5 grams of sugar, and 3g of prebiotic fiber. (And for the opinion seekers, check out Gwynedd’s early review.)

Where can I get Pepsi’s Prebiotic Colas?

Per the announcement, this early run of 8-packs will be available through Amazon, Walmart.com, and TikTok on November 28th. Select regions will also be able to order the sodas through Kroger.com, DoorDash, and GoPuff.

What is PepsiCo doing with all these prebiotic sodas?

It’s one thing to buy your way into a market, but PepsiCo appears to be playing both sides. They bought an industry leader in the space and are launching their own, completely separate branded product. I have a feeling Pepsi’s innovation team had no idea a poppi acquisition was in the cards when they spent all that time and money creating Pepsi with prebiotics. “We appreciate all that work you did to compete in this space, but we just bought the competitor without telling you” feels plausibly corporate.

Has “better-for-you” gone too far?

To summarize an opinion I recently shared on TikTok sweetheart SnachWithZach’s podcast, yes. Remember when soda was just something fun to have in moderation? I think the food industry at large is working backwards. Instead of doing more to teach and encourage balanced healthy portions, we’re trying to shove health benefits into the least healthy things.

Kroger recently sent me samples from their new Simple Truth Protein line—including protein-packed brownie mix. Call me traditional, but brownies should not be good for you! Are we really moving towards a hyper-nutritious future where a slice of cake includes 100% of your daily recommended vitamins? Am I the crazy one for not wanting that?
