You may think you’ve grown out of your Franzia phase—but this new product from the boxed wine behemoth is about to drag you right back to your spring breaker days. Franzia just dropped a 5L box of Strawberry Margarita.
Is this Franzia’s first foray into boxed cocktails?
Nope! This is currently the third product within Franzia’s boxed wine cocktails collection. It joins a traditional Margarita and Spiked Lemonade.
How big is 5L in drinking terms?
Let’s break it down. A 5L box of new Franzia Strawberry Margarita is equivalent to 6.7 wine bottles, which is equivalent to 34 glasses of this premixed cocktail. That’s a lot of Margarita to have ready to go, on tap. It retails for about $20, so that means you’re paying about 50 cents per cocktail.
Is it made with real tequila?
It is not. This boxed Margarita is described as a “wine cocktail,” and clocks in at 9% ABV. For context, that is the same ABV as Franzia’s Sunset Blush but lower than Franzia’s Merlot which comes in at 12.5%.
How long does a box of Franzia Strawberry Margarita last?
Depends on how good the party is. But technically speaking, once you open up a box it will stay fresh for up to six weeks.
Can you freeze it?
Damn straight you can freeze it! While you probably won’t be able to dispense the frozen cocktail from the spout, you can cut the end off the bag and squeeze it into glasses.
What does this new Franzia cocktail taste like?
I have not had the pleasure of trying it yet, but according to the brand it’s “bursting with juicy, sun-ripened strawberry and a zesty lime finish.” Now, I’ve had a lot of Franzia in my time—it wasn’t that long ago that we here at Sporked tasted and ranked 10 different boxes of Franzia—so I’m going to take that description with a grain of salt (or a rim of salt, as it were). My guess is that this boxed cocktail is probably on the sweeter side. But I will withhold any judgement until I try it, which I most certainly will.
