Costco is making a big change to its chicken that will make its loyal shoppers very happy. If you’ve bought the Kirkland Signature chicken breasts, you might have noticed what a pain it is to open the packaging. The thick plastic bag, split into six separate units of chicken, was impossible to tear open individually without a knife and without making a huge mess. It made meal prep more of a hassle than it should be, turning some off from buying the chicken again. But after many complaints, Costco listened.

What changes did Costco make to its chicken breasts?
Bodybuilder Austin Dickinson made an Instagram Reel showing the helpful change in the new packaging, which now includes perforated edges between the units. “For the longest time, the chicken breast at Costco, you’d have to take scissors and cut it off. But now…now you can just tear it off,” Dickinson explained. To demonstrate the improvement, he attempted to tear the packaging with one hand while using his foot to hold the package down. It was an unorthodox approach, but it worked with zero spillage.
How are customers responding to this change?
In the comments, many Costco fans were overjoyed over the update. Someone shared how this new packaging was the perfect solution to a previously annoying problem, writing, “This actually just made my day! The line between cutting it perfectly and cutting into the chicken bag and chicken juice everywhere was sooo fine! This is amazing.” A different commenter rejoiced: “The Lord answers the prayers of his children, finally!”
However, others noted that while Costco addressed a major issue, another glaring one remains. “Couldn’t care less about the perforations as long as that leaks every time you get it,” read a comment. Another customer wrote, “Can they dejuice the bags? Like, why is there so much chicken juice in them?”
While Costco has yet to come up with a way to prevent chicken juice from spilling all over your kitchen when opening the packaging—with or without the newly included perforations—a commenter offered valuable advice on how to store it without the dripping. “I always find that my chicken goes bad if I leave it in these bags. I take them out, get all the extra juice off them and put them in vac seal bags and they stay fresh,” she wrote.
