One key benefit to Costco’s membership program is that your card is actually valid at any Costco, regardless of the country of origin. In fact, there’s a group of international travelers who specifically go to other countries to visit their Costcos. They call themselves Costconians. I just found my plan for retirement. In the meantime, I’m left eating my $1.50 hot dog combo and instead daydreaming of the international Costco food court items I wish I could be snacking on. Here are six of the most exciting options that’d we’d swap out the chef salad for if we had the chance.

Poutine (Canada)

Being from Canada’s neighbor to the south, Minnesota, means I’m no stranger to the elegance that is poutine. A bed of fries with squeaky cheese curds on top, all smothered in a molten gravy. While I have been fortunate in finding a fix nearby (my favorite restaurant in L.A., Lingua Franca), imagine how much better life would be if U.S. Costcos started slinging poutine.

California Roll (UK)

The irony of writing this in California and idealizing getting a California sushi roll at my local Costco is not lost on me. In fact, there are a few countries where you can find sushi at the Costco food court but this setup was too juicy to pass up. Costco is known for quality, so I’d even trust them to serve up some sushi (in fact, some U.S. locations are slinging rolls).

Fish and Chips (France)

You read that right. The UK spent so much time trying to reheat California’s nachos that they let France steal their bread and butter out from right under them. Though I’m a hot dog combo kinda guy until I die, a side of fries would be a nice addition so maybe I could swap out a fish fillet for the main course while I’m at it.

Okonomiyaki Pizza (China)

China’s Costcos are serving up okonomiyaki pizza, which comes loaded with octopus, green peppers, corn, mayo, and bonito flakes. While 99% of the time I’m a pepperoni-only-on-my-pizza kinda guy. I can see the vision here though. It’d be nice to switch up the pizzas to get a little more pizzazz beyond cheese and pepperoni.

Steak Pie (Australia/New Zealand)

A steak pie is really just a reskinned version of the Costco chicken bake, but beef makes sense for the region.

Gelato (UK)

For all the grief I give food in the UK, I have to eat my words on this one. Two reasons to be jealous! Costco food courts in the UK Costco are serving up gelato for dessert! Not only do you get to choose which flavor you want (cherry, stracciatella, mint chocolate chip, and salted caramel), you also get it served to you in a freaking waffle cone.
