It should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that the new Super Mario movie has created many a brand collab. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie dropped a few weeks ago (we hope it isn’t a spoiler by now to say that it hasn’t received the best reviews), but even before then, food and drinks companies were pumping out products to jump on its release. We had Bubly’s new Super Mario Galaxy Seltzers, which we tried about a month back. We had Super Mario Galaxy Happy Meals from McDonald’s. And now that the dust has settled on the film a little, we have a collab between Super Mario and Trix.

And if we’re being totally honest, we’re excited about this one – because, if nothing else, you get a collectible Yoshi egg and a mystery box for your troubles. Here’s what you need to know.

Super Mario x Trix

The new Super Mario cereal kit, which is exclusively available at Walmart, is a three-parter, and it begins with the packaging. The cereal itself comes in a Super Mario Mystery Box, which gamers will recognize as one of the blocks that Mario jumps underneath to release coins. Inside the box is a plastic Yoshi egg, and you have to break that open (okay, you don’t have to break it, it just comes apart) to get to the Trix cereal.

As for said cereal, it’s a limited-edition Blue Raspberry flavor, which consists of blue and purple swirls. You get six ounces of cereal per purchase/box/egg, which obviously isn’t that much, but we don’t think many people will be buying it in hopes of finding their new regular breakfast meal. It’s all about the egg, and to a lesser extent, the box. That part’s just packaging, but we can still see it sitting on a collector’s shelf for years to come.

Is It Worth The Money?

Well, you know what? People aren’t 100% convinced that it is. The cereal kit costs just under $10.00, which isn’t a huge amount of money, but some folks have found issues with the quality of the item itself. In a post from @mnmtwinz about the cereal kit, one commenter stated that it was “not worth it. The Yoshi keepsake egg once plastic wrap is removed to open it the design isn’t on it and it’s plain white.” Now we’re gonna be honest, that slightly changes things – yes, it’s still a collectible, but if you can just peel off the outside, is it really that good?

We do have to say, though, that we’re still more interested in this one than the Super Mario Galaxy Yoplait Yogurt Cups, a new snack that seemed to have not that much going on for it. We’ll wait to see what the broader consensus is here before we make too many judgments.
