There’s no creamer, just coconut oil in these new dirty sodas.

For the last couple years, “dirty sodas” have become one of the hottest beverage trends around. If you’re not familiar with them, we put together an article explaining dirty sodas, but the short version is that they’re a combination of dairy, juice, and soda. Think of them as ice cream sodas, if you replaced the ice cream with creamer.

The “dirty” part comes from the fact that they were originally created by Mormons, who are not allowed to drink alcohol or hot caffeinated drinks, so a dirty soda was a real treat for them. The “classic” recipe is typically given as a mixture of Diet Coke, coconut syrup, half and half, and lime juice.

It’s a sweet, creamy treat that have become only more popular over time, with even McDonald’s preparing to release their versions of dirty sodas, soon. (If you’re curious, we managed to get an early taste test.)

But now, Slice has come up with their own canned version of the drink, although it doesn’t have the ingredients you might expect…

So, what’s in a Slice Dirty Soda?

Well, there’s no dairy, for one thing. Perhaps that’s to be expected, as adding milk-products would shorten the drink’s shelf life, greatly. Instead, Slice is using “coconut-derived MCT oil” to simulate the creamy texture of a dirty soda. I gotta admit that I’m curious to see how close this new version is to the real thing, but it certainly helps that coconut syrup was already part of the classic recipe.

The other thing that sets Slice Dirty Sodas apart from other dirty sodas—including other canned dirty sodas, like Dirty Mountain Dew—is that these dirty sodas contain prebiotics, postbiotics, and probiotics. It’s a dirty soda that’s (potentially) good for your gut!

When and where can I get Slice Dirty Soda?

Slice Dirty Sodas are already available now in Target in two flavors: Orange and Strawberry. The brand describes the Orange as “a bright, bold orange soda with a creamy twist,” and the Strawberry as, “a fresh take on a classic favorite, blending juicy strawberry flavor with smooth, creamy indulgence.”
