In years, historians will look back at this moment and think, “Why didn’t anyone do this before?” (okay, they probably won’t, but just go with me here). Like the sun and the moon, mac and cheese and cheesecake are two distinct entities, destined to be kept at a distance from each other – until now. Kraft has announced its new Mac & Cheesecake. And I can’t stop thinking about what on earth it actually tastes like.

Sadly, I probably won’t get a chance to find that out, because it’s only available in one country: Canada. Let’s talk about what’s going on.
KD Mac & Cheesecake: A Mashup For The Ages
Kraft Dinner’s new Mac & Cheesecake is, according to its press release, a “first-of-its-kind sweet and savoury creation,” which, in the parlance of modern-day food promotion, is “deliciously craveable.” The cake combines a graham cracker crust with a cheesecake batter and Kraft Dinner cheese, and it has a bright yellow tone that looks a pretty close match to the regular hue of its regular boxed mac and cheese. There’s no pasta in sight, so the “mac” part is slightly underrepresented here. I would personally like to point Kraft Heinz towards the Scottish macaroni pie as inspiration for its next dish. Just trust me, it’s really good.
With the release of its Mac & Cheesecake in Canada, KD is leaning both into the popularity of the product in the country and the growing appeal of food mashups and nostalgia-focused dishes. “As Canada’s unofficial dish, KD has long been associated with dinner,” said Kraft Dinner’s head of brand and creativity, Brian Neumann, in a statement. “This led us to ask ourselves, ‘why should the unmistakable KD flavour be limited to dinner time?’” Hey, fair question, Brian! “KD Mac & Cheesecake is a playful way for us to remind Canadians that when it comes to delicious cheese – no matter the meal – it’s Gotta be KD.”
And Where Can I Try This…Creation?
Well, obviously, if you’re not in Canada, that’s out. But if you are in Canada, you’ll be able to find it in select bakeries across the country and in major cities, including SanRemo Bakery in Toronto, Les Délices Lafrenaie in Montréal, and The Cheesecake Cafe in Calgary. Check out the Kraft Heinz website for a store locator.
This move from KD is probably its boldest yet, in a year when it’s leaning into a broadening of its product line. Last month, we brought you word of three new flavors of Kraft Mac & Cheese, which feel veeeerry fancy. Kraft, we’re enjoying the creativity — even if we’re, y’know, slightly on the fence about the whole mac and cheese-flavored cheesecake thing.
