I have shockingly never been to a Cracker Barrel―an incredible feat considering kitsch is my aesthetic of choice. I truly did not think we had them in my home state of Minnesota. Then on my road trip down to Los Angeles, I tried to stop at a Cracker Barrel. But I was so incredibly naive at the time that I accidentally stopped at a Golden Corral instead (rookie mistake).

I hope you can see the similarities. Now knowing the difference, it is quite obvious how great my mistake was. One day―hopefully soon―I will get to rectify my mistake by dining at the palace that is Cracker Barrel. I’m a smidge more fortunate than some (even if there is a long drive in my case) because there are a handful of states that don’t even have a single Cracker Barrel.
Too Far Away From A Cracker Barrel?
Those who get to live near a Cracker Barrel are truly the luckiest among us. Becoming a regular at a Cracker Barrel is on my bucket list. You get to be sweet-talked by the server every time you go. You can shop for all your holiday needs at the gift shop. There’s a warm aesthetic and I’ve heard the food is pretty good to boot.
The Six States With No Cracker Barrel
In the United States, there are a number of states that don’t have the pleasure of having a Cracker Barrel within their borders. You won’t find one in Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, or Wyoming. A little less surprising is the list of territories that you won’t find a Cracker Barrel in: American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Washington, D.C. is also on the list as well.
I have been to Puerto Rico and I can tell you, for however good Cracker Barrel’s food may be, the locals are not mourning its loss. I’d bet money that mofongo alone would clear anything on Cracker Barrel’s menu.
It does beg the question though―If you’re in one of the states or territories without a Cracker Barrel, should you move closer to one? Honestly, we’ll have to take to the comments on this one because I just don’t know. Perhaps it’s on the same level as Olive Garden―which I love but I certainly wouldn’t be planning my whole life around. Are you hoping for a Cracker Barrel in your state?
