According to Guinness, beef jerky is out. But steak cuts? Oh, they’re in, people. The Irish stout brand has been on a bit of a mission of late to conquer the food world: A couple of months ago, it partnered with Van Leeuwen to release a beer-flavored ice cream, and now, it’s coming for the protein market. And it’s doing it while you get your gas.

Guinness Steak Cuts: Your Next Road Trip Snack

In a press release published yesterday, Sidari Artisan Brands announced that its Guinness Steak Cuts will now be available in around 1,300 Kroger Fuel Centers across the country. This snack first debuted towards the end of last year, and a couple of months ago, Sidari started selling it on Amazon. Now, it’s going even bigger – and it’s got additional retail expansion in the pipelines for the rest of this year and the start of the next.

Sidari is clear to make the distinction that Guinness Steak Cuts aren’t jerky (but honestly, you could have fooled us!). Instead, it’s billing this product as a “steak snack,” made with 100% whole-muscle eye-of-round steak marinated in zero-alcohol Guinness. Guinness Steak Cuts come in three flavors: Original, Chocolate, and Coffee. They, of course, feel very appropriate for a market that has an insatiable appetite for all things protein, so we’re sure they’ll fit right in.

But…Do They Taste Good?

According to reviews, they do. Guinness Steak Cuts have been racking up some positive responses on Amazon (although it might pain Sidari to see that people constantly refer to it as “jerky” in their reviews – sorry, folks, but it is similar). A lot of people point out that these feel like quality pieces of meat and that the Guinness flavor is pronounced without taking over. Guinness Steak Cuts are also nice and tender, which you definitely can’t say about a lot of jerky products.

It’s interesting to me that, as far as I can see, Guinness hasn’t tried to launch this snack either in Ireland or the United Kingdom yet. Steak and Guinness pie is big over here, so it feels like a natural fit. Clearly, we might have to wait a little while before this one graces this side of the Atlantic. For anyone near a Kroger, though, they’re available now, so check them out for yourself. Maybe just avoid the “J” word when you’re describing them, if anyone from the company who makes them is nearby.
