We loooove fast food beef (we’re talking about the smack talk kind of beef here, not the burger kind). What can we say? We live for the drama. And this year, we’ve had a lot of it, thanks in part to one CEO and his Big Arch video (and subsequent resurfaced videos) going viral, which led to a flood of other fast food executives delivering their own responses. Okay, in the strictest terms, this wasn’t necessarily beef – but c’mon. It wasn’t far off.

Now, we’re getting another round of chain restaurant-related potshots, thanks to Carl’s Jr and its new “Pass on Jack” campaign. But what is it? We’ll explain.
We’d Love To Know What Jack In The Box Thinks Of This One…
Carl’s Jr.’s Pass on Jack push is one of the more bold (and are we say, brazen?) campaigns we’ve seen in a while. In its press release, the restaurant calls it a “playful challenge to road trippers everywhere,” in which it’s asking customers to pick sides in a big way. Pass on Jack is exactly what it sounds like: Carl’s Jr. is kindly requesting that you drive past Jack In The Box, and go to one of its locations instead.
The official press statement from Carl’s Jr. doesn’t name Jack In The Box specifically, but what it’s offering customers as a result of doing so is clear (more on that in a moment). “When hunger strikes on a road trip, it’s tempting to pull over at the first burger joint you see,” said Carl’s Jr.’s vice president of brand marketing, Paz Romero. “This summer, we know our loyal fans and new
customers are bound to drive by a Carl’s Jr., so we want to reward them for stopping at the best burger option on the road.”
And What Do I Get?
You get a free sandwich. If you can prove that you drove past a Jack In The Box and chose Carl’s Jr. instead, the restaurant will give you a free Sourdough Star, which is back for a limited time. How’s that for an enticement?
How Do I Prove It?
According to Carl’s Jr., all you have to do is take a screenshot of a GPS route “or any other proof that [you] stayed the course and kept driving past a Jack in the Box” to the Pass on Jack website. You have to do this between June 23 and 30, just FYI. If you can successfully prove that you indeed are loyal to Carl’s Jr. (and isn’t this all sounding a bit mafia vibes now?), your free sandwich will appear in your app, and you can claim it until July 7.
