Think about it… you want Taco Bell, but nothing on the menu is really speaking to you. But the price and addictive flavor leaves you hesitant to venture away from the Bell to something more luxe or full of options like Chipotle. Well, I’ve been there at least. And, as it turns out, a lot of other people out there feel the same way.

As it just so happens, there’s a subreddit that anyone with free will and internet access can tap into at any given time. Generally, it’s full of complaints of wrong orders or thoughts on new menu items. But every once in a while you’ll strike fast-food hack gold. And a little over a week ago, I found a new reason to be shouting “GOLD RUSH!” from the rooftops once again. Turns out, we’ve probably all just been sleeping on the customizations available for fan-favorite menu items at Taco Bell, especially through their app.
Everything About The Hack
The food hack in question here has to do with maximizing and optimizing Taco Bell’s Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito. Per the original post on Reddit, the user suggests the addition of the Slow-Roasted Chicken and the Fajita Veggies. To me, the thing that is most shocking and overwhelmingly positive about this hack is its value and balance. Even with these seemingly more high-quality topping additions, the order item still comes in at under $5.
The combo uses the Slow-Roasted Chicken that is part of the new Cantina menu. It’s higher quality that the traditional chicken that Taco Bell uses and offers an additional source of high-quality protein (on top of the beans) in the burrito. Mix in the Fajita Veggies as well for flavor, texture, and a bit of fiber and you take something one note and give it a boost in nutritional value and flavor. As far as a Taco Bell hack goes, this one elevates a singular, under $2 menu item and elevates it to something that could be a justifiable stand-alone meal.
Does It Work?
Redditors in the thread who have tried it out since the original post have said that “It felt like a religious experience,” and noted that you can even step the hack up an extra notch by asking for it to be grilled. I’m almost intimidated by how well balanced this hack overall makes a Taco Bell burrito. To have something mushy and plain in flavor turned into something complex in both flavor and texture is quite the hack indeed. I’m excited to try it out for myself.
