This McDonald’s Fan Favorite Might Be Returning

If you’ve ever been personally victimized by the McCrispy Strips at McDonald’s, you aren’t alone. Ever since the incredible Chicken Selects were first discontinued back in 2013, the fast food chain has struggled to please with chicken tenders that are actually crispy and satisfying.

But all of that just might shift thanks to big changes this month. A fan-favorite tender could be making its way back to McDonald’s locations everywhere if rumors prove true. Yes, I’m talking about the potential comeback of the Chicken Selects you’ve been yearning for.

Chicken Selects Are Rumored To Return

Chicken Selects could be reappearing at your local McDonalds after a 13-year hiatus. But before you get too excited, they won’t be the exact same; the restaurant is revamping its current chicken strips and introducing a new version that is meant to mimic Chicken Selects.

According to a post from Snackolator on Instagram, McDonald’s is going to begin phasing out the many-flavored McCrispy Strips that are currently the fast food giant’s sole chicken strip option on the menu. And these universally-disliked strips will be replaced by a new recipe featuring breading that’s supposed to be crispier and crunchier.

The reason for the swap is customer feedback, which has pretty much panned the McCrispy Strips. In fact, as Snackolator mentions in the post, the breading on these new chicken strips will look closer to the original—and beloved fan favorite—Chicken Selects.

McDonald’s Chicken Strips Are Getting an Upgrade

Even if the new chicken strips that debut at McDonald’s over the coming weeks aren’t exactly the same as the original Chicken Selects, the recipe will be an upgrade from the current McCrispy Strips. Personally, I’m not sad to see the McCrispy go—since they debuted, I’ve been strictly Chick-fil-A for my fast food strips and chicken nuggets or nothing at all. The McCrispy has been a serious downgrade since its debut.

And I’m not the only one who misses the old (and actually crispy!) McDonalds chicken strips. In the comments of Snackolator’s announcement post, it’s clear the McCrispy might be fast food’s most hated item right now. Opinions range from “Finally. My god the current ones are so bad. Not crispy at all,” from one user to “The current tenders are the absolute worst chicken item in any restaurant” from another. (And I have some questions for the sole commenter who noted, “Dang. I liked these current ones a lot.”)

You might want to plan a visit to your local McDonald’s in the days ahead. If the rumors are true, the upgraded Chicken Selects-inspired strips are slated to start rolling out over the next week, meaning those microwave-level soggy ones are going to disappear fast.
