Dunkin’ has named a new king and it’s… Kylie Jenner?

No, we’re with you. We’re a little confused, too. But hey, what celebrity isn’t doing a fast food or drink collab lately? So we’ll bite. Or sip in this case. We’ve already reported on the release of the drinks. Now we’re sitting down and tasting them. You can find the drinks under the King Kylie section of Dunkin’ menus. Now, let’s get into the drinks and how they taste.
Candy Pink Lemonade Refresher
Now, this one was actually my favorite of the three. This is a lemonade refresher with pink pineapple flavor and dragon fruit pieces. Now, I’m a sucker for dragon fruit, so I was already pretty swayed on this one. The dragon fruit doesn’t add much to the drink aside from the layered coloring. Plus, my local Dunkin’ did actually forget my dragon fruit pieces, so my drink was just one solid pink. Still, it was really good. The sweetness of the pink pineapple worked really well with the lemonade for a drink that was a little sweet, a little tart, and completely refreshing. It’s also a great option for drinks that don’t contain coffee. And on a hot day like the ones we’ve been having? This was a delight.
Vanilla Pink Cloud Latte
This is a French vanilla latte topped with blush pink Strawberry Cold Foam. Now, when I went to take the first sip? Wow, was I hit with the strawberry smell from the foam. But not in a sweet or cloying way. It was a nice refreshing strawberries and cream smell.
The rest of this review is going to be a little conjecture based. I have a problem with chain coffee shops because they very often burn their espresso or let it sit for too long and become bitter. I don’t fault them entirely―they’re typically moving fast and it’s just a by product of that. But it is one of the reasons I’m a bigger fan of non-coffee based drinks. Or at least non-espresso based drinks. If there’s no espresso to turn bitter, then the quality is easier to manage.
In theory, this latte sounds good. Strawberry and vanilla in a latte? Yum. It’s a combo that’s been around for a while. Dunkin’ even has a whole section of the menu celebrating their new Strawberry Cold Foam. However, because of the nature of espresso, my drink wasn’t the best. The cold foam? Delicious. This cold foam on some short cake would be bomb. But the coffee had turned bitter and kind of ruined the delicate vanilla and strawberry flavors. If you have a Dunkin’ you trust and you know makes a good latte, your experience may be better. If the latte part had been made well, I have no doubt that this drink would’ve been great. (As a side note, they also have a chocolate covered strawberry iced coffee and I may need that next.) This drink is getting a 6 because the concept of the flavor is solid, but the execution was a little lacking.
Pink Lemon Drop Suncloud Lemonade
Now this one, I have the most problem with. And most of it doesn’t have to do with the taste. The taste is fine. It’s not my favorite but I also don’t hate it. I think it could use the slightest bit more flavor from something. But it’s good. It’s a solid drink.
My problem comes from the fact that this drink already exists on the Dunkin’ menu under a different name. This is the same drink as the Strawberry Sundrop Lemonade except there’s more strawberry flavor in the regular menu item. I think that extra strawberry is exactly what this drink needed. It was somehow kind of bland despite being lemonade and strawberry. I would say not to bother with this one. If the flavors sound good, go for the Strawberry Sundrop over this drink. This one also didn’t layer very nicely. It pretty quickly mixed into one soft pink color. So if you’re looking for a pretty layered drink for the ‘gram, maybe choose another beverage.
Overall, these are solid drinks. They’re not groundbreaking. But they’re good. They certainly could be worse. I was expecting something a little more unique or creative. These, for the most part, are basically already on the menu before the collab. It certainly takes some of the specialty of the partnership away if you could get these flavors prior to the drinks’ release.
