Okay, full disclosure: We’ve been a bit down on Aldi over the last few weeks. Well, actually, it’s not so much that WE’VE been down on the grocery store; it’s more that we’ve felt some discontent in the air from its customers, and have duly passed said discontent on, here, in written form. The Aldi customer community has been rife with reports that things have started to taste a little different: its granola bars, beef smoked sausage, and chicken nuggets have all been accused of having undergone recipe changes, and not for the better.

But in the pursuit of fairness, we also didn’t want to ignore where Aldi’s getting it right – and it’s doing just that over in the freezer section, with one unassuming item. This one’s a must-buy.

Season’s Choice Dark Sweet Cherries: Take A Bow, Aldi

A couple of days ago, a thread popped up over on Reddit, with the title simply saying, “wow.” Vague. Mysterious. Could have gone either direction. Upon opening it, though, we found that the customer who posted it was wow-ing in the affirmative, over Aldi’s Seasons’ Choice Dark Sweet Cherries, which they dubbed “AMAZING” (capitals and all).

Apparently, Aldi’s picked a winner when it comes to the sourcing of these pitted dark sweet cherries, because the thread promptly received a flood of comments discussing how good they were. One customer called them “a must have,” while another said, “These are a fave of mine.” The only problem, apparently, is that they’re hard to find: Several people have stated that they’ve never seen them in their local Aldi. Keep your eyes peeled and your hearts open, people.

A Versatile Choice

The sheer number of people extoling the virtues of these cherries has shown that Aldi’s still paying attention to the quality of its basics – and while a lot of people have been left upset by recent product changes, when it comes to frozen fruit, it’s still getting it right (its frozen blueberries were also namechecked as being good quality, too). In the Reddit thread, customers also swapped ways to use the dark sweet cherries. One person recommended adding them to Aldi’s dark chocolate brownie mix, and another recommended throwing them into a blender with iced coffee and vanilla ice cream-flavored protein powder. Excuse me while I go and try that immediately.

You could also throw them into yogurt bowls, smoothies, scatter them onto a salad for a bit of sweet contrast, or eat them on their own as a snack. If you’ve been disappointed by products feeling a bit different at the lower-price store recently, here’s your corrective.
