Didn’t Ted Lasso end? From an outside perspective, I absolutely thought that was the case. I guess that was the inspiration for the latest move from Jeni’s as well. Like the show, Jeni’s has brought back a flavor that we much expected to be gone for good. In fact, we’ve been day dreaming about its return. I guess we helped manifest this, too!

Jeni’s Ted Lasso inspired flavor, Biscuits With The Boss, is a combination of a salted butter sweet cream base with shortbread cookie pieces. That same dessert that Lasso bakes for boss Rebecca in the show. The flavor just released online and in scoop shops on July 21st, so I took a little walk down to my local Jeni’s to give it a try. How’d it go? Let’s talk about that.

Here’s What We Think

Pros: The sweet cream ice cream and shortbread cookie pieces create a safe base for more flavor to be added on. Jeni’s takes advantage of this by marketing an add-on called the “Ted Lasso Special (two half scoops of buttery shortbread ice cream, topped with fudge and caramel sauces). I opted for this and I’m glad I did because it really added a layer of flavor that would have been sorely missed without it.

Cons: Like all British food (sorry!), this flavor was such a safe play. I get that shortbread cookies aren’t exactly bursting with flavor so you can’t do much about it―but really, I’m just continually baffled by this entire gimmick from the show. A few years back, I got a promotional offering of Ted Lasso shortbread that created my view on the topic. Side bar for context: this is a unique perk of living in Los Angeles. Studios are constantly trying to woo the industry professionals (which I am not one of) in the community so you can just get free stuff if you go to their popups throughout the year.

Verdict: Should you get this ice cream if you’re a Ted Lasso fan and want to cement your fandom? Sure. Would I rush out to get it? Not even if I was the number one Ted Lasso fan in the world. Heck, I can’t even recommend it over a dozen other flavors that Jeni’s is serving up. I just struggle to figure out what place this has among the rest. Maybe it makes the cut if you have a buy five pints get a sixth free promo (I have no idea if this promo has or will exist, I’m just trying to be optimistic here). Otherwise, it’s a skip.
