I appreciate Costco for what it is. You’re going there to buy in bulk and get the essentials for the coming months. While this certainly makes it hard to shop for one, I make due with what I have in front of me. That is―industrial sized containers of food. That’s okay. We know what we’re getting ourselves into. We just have to plan ahead. Here are all the items that we would put in our cart at Costco when it comes down to it.

Kirkland Signature Rotisserie Chicken

This is such an obvious choice that I couldn’t place it anywhere but first. Costco sells their rotisserie chickens at a loss―that’s how iconic they are. They know they’re going to lose money on them, but they’ll get you in the doors so they can make the profit up elsewhere. And it works every time.

Kirkland Signature Organic Pure Maple Syrup

You can get a lot of things at other grocery stores. You can’t get pure maple syrup for this cheap anywhere else but Costco. It may be a luxury but it’s still making its way into our cart for this one. I just can’t go back to “pancake syrup.”

Kirkland Chocolate Cake Filled with Chocolate Mousse

There are plenty of excuses to get a chocolate cake from Costco. At the very top is the fact that it’s actually our favorite chocolate cake you can find at any grocery store. Grab it for any birthday party or just a Friday night when you need a little pick-me-up.

Kirkland Signature Smoked Pulled Pork

Costco’s smoked pulled pork is so delicious that it’ll put your grill out of commission. This is going to be your secret weapon for any football watch party, backyard BBQ, or potluck!

Kirkland Signature Garlic Butter Shrimp

This is luxury at Costco prices. In this unassuming box you’ll find plump and firm shrimp that are swimming in a pool of buttery, garlicky sauce. Yes, please! Serve it over pasta or just eat it straight out of the oven with a side of bread for dipping.

Kirkland Signature Butter Croissants

Oof, okay I do realize this is Kirkland Signature heavy. Sorry they make reliable products! Last one, I promise. A Costco bakery item is essential for any trip, their croissants may be a little safe of a pick but that just means we can spruce them up ourselves.

UNREAL Dark Chocolate Variety Pack

A Costco-sized pack of individually portioned out candy is exactly what we need in these trying times. How can you be sad, mad, or anxious when you stash away a bunch of candy around your house? Just go on a hunt and dig in!

Kewpie Mayonnaise

Mayo feels like a safe pick, but the versatility of Kewpie is unbelievable. It’s like a smooth, spreadable egg salad in a bottle. Add it onto any sandwich to instantly level it up or use it as a dip for your fries or even sushi!

San Giuliano Coastal Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil

If we’re stocking up on staples, then olive oil needs to make the list. We just tried every olive oil available at Costco so the timing couldn’t be better. Let’s grab our favorite!

Just Bare Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks

The best thing you can get from Costco is something to keep on hand for easy eating when you just don’t feel like cooking. A plate full of these lightly breaded chicken breast chunks are just the thing we need!
