These Beloved Shortbread Cookies Are Spicing Up This Fall

After years and years of Milano glory and innovation, Pepperidge Farms is giving some of that attention to one of its most underrated cookies. People like to sleep on the delicacy that is a shortbread, but now we’re seeing some proper attention being awarded to shortbread cookies—and Pepperidge Farms is, too. Their iconic Chessmen cookies are too easily overlooked, but this year has seen some major shifts in the Chessmen lineup.

At the beginning of the year, three new permanent Chessmen flavors were added to the Pepperidge Farms collection. The new flavors included Cinnamon Sugar, Salted Caramel, and Brown Butter Pecan, all made to pair well with the base dough of the classic Chessmen shortbread. They’re crumbly, cozy, and now they’re getting another seasonal addition added to their range to really reign in all of the autumn spirit.

A New Fall Favorite Coming To Pepperidge Farms

I have to admit, when it comes to absolutely nailing a seasonal holiday flavor, there’s kind of no one else going it quite like Pepperidge Farms. Every time a new flavor is announced I have to try them, because no matter how skeptical I am of the company’s ability to execute the flavor, my expectations are always exceeded. Anyone else still dreaming of the delicate and expertly executed London Fog Milanos?

More than anything, I dearly hope that holds true for the launch of their new Spiced Orange Cranberry Chessmen. This is one of my most beloved fall flavors and no matter who is releasing their version of this flavor combination, I know I have to try it out. A scone from my local bakery? I’m buying a dozen. The Cranberry Bliss Bars from Starbucks? Undeniably the best sweet coming out of Starbucks cases in my opinion and my most anticipated Starbucks release every year.

We Can’t Wait

The combination of warming spices, bright and fragrant citrus, and the tart and chewy cranberries always tugs at my heart strings and leaves me with no option but to buy those fabulous treats. And honestly, I can’t think of a time that the flavor has disappointed me. So, between Pepperidge Farms’ legacy of exceptionally executed flavors and the irresistibility of this flavor, I’d say these are bound to be another inevitable roaring success for the company. And it makes us here at Sporked excited to see the continued attention being given to Chessmen that they have long deserved, especially in leading the fall flavor lineup for Pepperidge Farms this year.

The two other flavors included in Pepperidge Farms’ fall lineup are the returning Pumpkin Spice Milanos and Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookies. And look out now because all three of these fall flavors are hitting grocery store shelves this month.
