We Tried The Cosmic Brownie Crumbl Cookie (And We’re Feeling Oh-So Nostalgic)

Hopefully most of you are celebrating Labor Day and patting yourself on the back for being such a hard worker. But, while the rest of the world celebrates Labor Day, we here at Sporked know Mondays to mean one thing and one thing only: a brand new Crumbl cookie menu is out in stores. Especially with this week being a particularly interesting menu lineup due to Crumbl’s collaboration with Little Debbie, we knew we would have to try out at least one of these cookies firsthand.

After perusing the snack cake-inspired menu we decided that first cookie we’d need to try is the one inspired by perhaps the most iconic Little Debbie snack cake of them all and filled with 90s childhood nostalgia — enter the Cosmic Brownie. Without further ado, let’s get into the pros and cons of this cookie and whether or not you need to run out to Crumbl this holiday weekend for a good dose of childhood nostalgia.

An Out-Of-This-World Review

Pros — This cookie is good for a couple of reasons. For starters, Crumbl avoided one of its most toxic characteristics in this cookie. That trait is, of course, that most of their cookies don’t have any balance due to an overwhelming lack of salt. We are especially grateful to that additional seasoning in this cookie, especially since it is a rich, chocolatey brownie-inspired dough.

Additionally, the fudgy chocolate glaze on top is deeply reminiscent of the flavor and sweetness levels of the frosting on the original Cosmic Brownies, despite its difference in texture. Furthermore, the fact that this cookie uses the actual candy coated pieces from the Little Debbies snacks not only makes this an accurately represented nostalgic treat, but the color and contrast in texture are a welcome addition to this otherwise very fudgy cookie.

The fact that this cookie is served warm is particularly interesting and beneficial to each bite. The texture of the cookie is gooey and each bite serves as an additional point of comfort, beyond its nostalgic charm. Honestly, this cookie reminded me that even a day-old brownie, or one straight from a plastic wrapper, could be benefited by a couple of seconds in the oven or microwave. 

Cons — The only real negative to this cookie is the fact that, especially once it has cooled down from initially being served warm in store, the exterior of the cookie does get quite hard and crisp. But in that same regard, the center does remain quite fudgy, and at least you can still pick it up and eat it easily without it crumbling in your hand. If you don’t like a Cosmic Brownie or something very rich in general then this probably is not gonna be the cookie for you.
