We Tried The New Pringles Dippers (And They Flopped)

Pringles has done it again! They’ve invented a new kind of chip! Their crisps revolutionized the game and they’ve set out to shake up the industry once more. Their new creation? A thicker version of their iconic crisp. Something that can hold up to the mightiest of dips but still fits into their cylindrical vessel.

They took the Pringles crisp, added waves, and set out to create the ultimate dip transporter. How’d they do at the task? Well, we should talk about that. To put it plainly, they failed. These things are hardly the thicc beasts that they needed to be to hold up against the mightiest of dips. At best, they’re thic with one c. They’re just so lackluster. I don’t know if they even made these things two ply versus the original crisp.

We needed to get that out of the way because that’s an obvious issue across the board. The structure of the Dippers are the same in every version. I can’t even commend them for adding a bit of texture with the wave of the Dippers because it doesn’t add much to the experience―which is disappointing because I am a big texture guy. What we’re really left to talk about then is just the taste of each of the new flavors that they added with this launch. Let’s get into it.

Pringles Dippers Original

Pros: This is an original Pringles crisp. The flavor is a 1:1 match for the well-established taste of a Pringles crisp. There’s nothing else to talk about here. If you like Pringles, you’ll like this one too.

Cons: All this time in the lab brought them back to quite literally the beginning. You just reinvented the original Pringles crisp. Congratulations, I guess?

Pringles Dippers French Onion

Pros: Have you ever had a sour cream and onion Pringles crisp? Well then you’ve had the French onion Pringles Dipper. They’re virtually the same flavor and the description even matches. Pringles were aiming for notes of onion and rich tangy, creamy flavor―aka sour cream and onion.

Cons: Did someone actually get paid to reinvent the wheel? Between this and the original Dipper, I have some regrets about not becoming a food scientist. It sounds like the easiest job in the world.

Pringles Dippers Bacon Cheddar

Pros: Technically, there was a bacon cheddar Pringles flavor released in the original form of crisp. It’s not currently being sold in stores so we’ll take what we can get. A (sort of) actual new flavor! And it’s a good one. Many companies tend to overdue the smoke when they’re trying to make a bacon-tasting product, but Pringles does a great job with this one. It’s playfully meaty, a bit tangy, but fully bingeable.

Cons: I’m still anti-Dippers so it loses a Spork for the nature of its being. Pringles, I promise to give this line of crisps a new chance when you come back with a quarter inch thick crisp. That should be hearty enough to hold up to a truly thicc dip.
