We Tried Flipz and Dunkin’s New Pumpkin Spice Covered Pretzels

Fall means one major thing for most sweet and drink places and that’s: pumpkin spice. Dunkin’ is no stranger to their pumpkin offerings including their staple pumpkin pie spice cake donut. And honestly, it’s a good donut. It should be a staple year round really.

But this article isn’t about donuts. Mostly. It’s about something flavored like their staple fall donut. So just what is Dunkin’ doing? Well, they’re bringing you that great donut flavor in more than just a donut vehicle. Dunkin’ has partnered up with Flipz, the covered pretzel brand, to bring you the pumpkin spice donut covered pretzels. 

A Limited Release

So we hunted them down to give them a try so you know whether these are even worth finding. Because that is one thing I found a little annoying. These are fairly limited in release. You can find them at select retailers nationwide, mainly CVS, Wakefern, Kroger, Five Below, Albertsons, Dollar General, and Stop & Shop. 

But even when I started looking for these, they were hard to come by. Sure, part of it was because the Halloween stuff was just starting to get put out. But if you’re going to announce something like this, maybe make sure it doesn’t take someone two weeks and many store trips just to find one little bag. I eventually found them at CVS in the Halloween section. I haven’t looked for them since, so they may also be a one stock item and not be refilled. So if you want to try them, don’t wait for those post Halloween discounts. You have to move fast for these. 

Our Verdict

But that’s not what you’re here for. You wanna know how they taste. And well, they were actually really good. I wasn’t expecting to like them so much. I’m very picky about my pumpkin spice stuff. A lot of places get it wrong. And this isn’t just meant to be pumpkin spice, it’s meant to mimic Dunkin’s pumpkin spice cake donut. So there’s an additional flavor layer there. 

But dang, they kind of nailed it. It has the perfect spice level. And honestly, compared to a Dunkin’ donut namesake? It was pretty spot on. I actually may have loved this more than the donut itself because the pretzel adds crunch and salt and just really amplifies the sweet and spice of the coating. The balance of coating to pretzel is perfect, which really speaks more to Flipz mastering their covered pretzels, but some covered pretzels are just lacking. These do not. I had to really restrain myself from eating the whole bag in one go. And that was hard. I would highly recommend these covered pretzels. 

The one thing I’m most upset about? That these will only last until the end of October and then I can’t eat them anymore. Guess I better start the hunt again and stock up.
