This Beloved Mac And Cheese Brand Just Released Two New Flavors

Annie’s as a company have been pioneers of change in the boxed mac and cheese landscape, and have been for sometime now. They paved away for a shift in the market and showed other companies that there was an audience for expansion beyond the Kraft mac and cheese that everyone knows and loves. Their organic mac is also just undeniably delicious. I mean, it basically does just taste like a little bit of an elevated version of the traditional Kraft box, but for families who are dependent on the comfort, ease, and efficiency of Kraft that wanted a bit of a more wholesome option, Annie’s lit the way.

Now we have other companies like Goodles entering the game too, but we haven’t lost sight of how essential Annie’s has been for creating diversity in the boxed mac and cheese space. That’s why we were so intrigued to hear about these newest flavors that they were releasing. Let’s get into the details. 

Funky New Mac Flavors Are Coming Our Way

The first new flavor being added to the Annie’s flavor lineup is a Dill Pickle flavor. And while we typically would expect a flavor like this to come out of Goodles and less so from Annie’s, I can’t say we’re complaining either. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen something genuinely innovative in the flavor space from Annie’s beyond different varieties of cheese to choose from, so we’re interested to see if they can actually pull this one off in a way that is not only a genuine representation of flavor, but also is balanced with the cheesiness that we would expect from a boxed mac and cheese. 

What’s interesting about this flavor is also that it is also a high-protein alternative to their traditional mac and cheeses. As opposed to the typical box of max and cheese, their Super! Mac is made from yellow peas in addition to wheat and has 14 grams of protein per serving. This flavor, however, is an online exclusive.

The other flavor being released certainly has a lot less going on, especially since it’s not a high-protein version of the traditional Annie’s mac, but it still intrigues us. The flavor is Macaroni & Grilled Cheese, and honestly we just don’t know what to expect that to taste like.

Will it be the regular mac & cheese flavor with a bit more buttery of a taste? That’s what it says it will be, claiming notes of brown butter present in the mix. But whether or not it will be a nice addition lean towards that artificial movie-theater popcorn butter flavor we’re still not sure of. Regardless, we’re eager to try these new flavors out. We’ll be sure to pick up a box and get to the bottom of it on our next Target run.
