2026 has somewhat been the year of peanut butter mashups. I say “somewhat” because there haven’t quite been enough new peanut-butter-and-other-things hybrids to call it a full-on trend, but it’s definitely true that we’ve seen the food start to encroach on other foodstuffs more insistently. Take Jif’s peanut butter instant noodles, for instance, which recently got two more flavors, and are, according to people who have tried them, apparently pretty good. Or take Skippy’s latest item, which turns a panettone into a peanut butter loaf.

Wait, what was that? Yes: it’s time for a peanut butter and chocolate loaf combo. Will this be a hit? Or will panettone makers everywhere see this as an affront to the form? Time will tell. For now, let’s discuss.

Skippy x Bauducco Peanut Butter Choccotone

This year, Skippy has teamed up with Bauducco, the world’s latest panettone producer, to create the Peanut Butter Choccotone. This panettone remix takes a classic Bauducco chocolate chip panettone and fills it with Skippy peanut butter. Like, literally fills it. Bite past the light-as-air crumb, and you’re greeted with the creamy smoothness of Skippy. It’s a texture-flavor mashup, people!

According to Bauducco, a Brazil-born bakery started by Italian immigrant Carlo Bauducco, the Skippy collab is a way to more firmly establish its name in the US market. “This partnership with the SKIPPY brand invites American consumers to discover the Chocottone in a way that feels personal and delicious, combining two globally recognized brands into something fresh and special,” said Juliana Corá Bastos, marketing, trade marketing & e-commerce director for Bauducco International BU, in its press release. “And this is just the beginning of what we have planned together – stay tuned for more exciting innovations.” Alongside the new Peanut Butter Choccotone, Bauducco has also created the new Pistachio Chocottone, which wields the power of pistachio for another twist on this traditional Christmas loaf.

But…Will It Work?

On a flavor level, Skippy and Bauducco’s partnership makes perfect sense: Peanut butter and chocolate are a classic pairing, and peanut butter and bread come hand-in-hand. What I’m slightly questioning here is the density of it all: Panettone is meant to be as light and airy as possible, so wouldn’t peanut butter just gum it all up and be too dense for the loaf? Bauducco’s other products seem to indicate that it knows what it’s doing here – it already has a chocolate hazelnut cream panettone, so it clearly has experience with filling its products with spreads. If you want to try this one, though, it’ll be available from this month at major retailers across the US.
