There has been a big moment in the last few years of brands reformulating their products and taking them back to basics. Which isn’t to say they’re making them less tasty or removing what the public loved about them, but they’re giving the public the opportunity to read the ingredients and actually know what’s in their food.

There has been the move to remove artificial dyes and flavors to promote more natural and healthy foods. We’ve seen it in all sorts of brands. And the latest one moving into the natural sphere? None other than Planet Oat.
What Are They Changing?
Now, for those starting to panic that their favorite oat milk is about to change and ruin their morning routine, breathe. They’re not changing the whole line. Planet Oat’s current milks will remain as is. But for those wanting something a little more transparent or, in Planet Oat’s words, humble, you can try their new addition. Plant Oat has released a new oat milk called their Humble Edition. This oat milk is made with just 5 ingredients: oats, water, banana puree, sea salt, and baking soda. That’s it.
An oat milk with just 5 ingredients? Well, of course, we had to run out and try it. I love a good oat milk. It’s one of my go-to dairy products for coffee. And I particularly love Planet Oat. They’ve always had a good, smooth oat milk that isn’t too overpowering or off tasting. So let’s get into how it tastes.
Planet Oat’s Humble Edition
Pros: So I really loved this oat milk. I don’t usually drink oat milk as is, but for this I made sure to try it alone to get a feel for the taste of the milk alone. And then I of course made my morning coffee with it to see how it held up to the usual milk (and honestly, the creamer, because I love some Planet Oat creamer). It was really good. The oat wasn’t overpowering. It was smooth and pleasant. And in coffee, with a little syrup, it definitely held up to the creamer.
Cons: Honestly, there wasn’t much that was bad about it. But I know people are going to see the banana puree and stop short. And honestly, I was a little worried about it, too. Was this about to turn my morning coffee into a banana coffee? Surprisingly? No! You can hardly taste the banana at all. It felt like it was just adding a little natural sweetness to the oat milk without adding the flavor of banana. But I’m sure people who are a little more sensitive to banana flavor who want to drink it straight, they may not be the biggest fan of this. I would still urge you to try it.
And obviously, if you don’t like the taste of oats, this may not be the drink for you. It tastes very oaty, which I personally enjoyed. But I know when you drink milk, you expect a certain taste and this isn’t going to give you that typical taste.
The Verdict
Well, it’s probably pretty obvious, but I’m a big fan of this new oat milk from Planet Oat. I would urge anyone who likes oat milk to try it out, even if the thought of the banana scares you. I promise, you don’t taste it. And if you add it to coffee? You’re definitely not going to get the banana at all.
