As yet another week comes to a close, we would be remiss if we didn’t give our lovely readers insight into the very best of what we tasted. As food writers, we certainly taste test more than the average person, and it’s our job to have some pretty strong opinions about the things we try. So, when something really stands out to us as a hit, we think it’s worth giving it a little shout out so that you folk can try them out yourselves.

Generally, these are not new products that have just been released, so you probably aren’t going to be seeing them all over the news right now. But, that doesn’t mean they are any less worthwhile of getting a little bit of attention. These are the three items we think are worth a dose of spotlight this week.

Wingstop Fries

We talk a lot about fries here at Sporked. From ranking every fast food fry to finding frozen dupes for our favorites, we put a lot of time and energy into the overall french fry conversation. But, one batch of fries that we think is always overlooked is Wingstop. And no, we’re not even talking about the Voodoo fries. Just the regular fries themselves are so well made. They are perfectly crispy and recognizable as potatoes, but they don’t feel like a more natural alternative either. They are impeccable seasoned every single time, and the ranch to dip makes these probably our favorite fry of any fast casual establishment in the States. Even if you’re not about wings, next time you’re craving a great french fry I would suggest Wingstop.

Maple Brown Butter Almonds

We always love seeing what new flavored nuts they have at Trader Joe’s, and the fall season seems particularly inclined to complementary flavors with anything and everything nutty. We were excited to try these out since the flavor of the coating is the maple and brown butter. Whereas a lot of flavored nuts overpower the natural flavor of the nut, that couldn’t be further from the case for these. It accentuates the flavor of the almonds, and they’re so oh-so addicting. Perhaps the best part of it all is that they aren’t so sweet where you would feel bogged down by eating a big handful of them.

Bosco Nestore Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

For $13, it is reasonable to think that a wine wouldn’t blow us away. But regardless of this wine’s impeccable value, it is one of the most exemplary glasses we’ve had in some time. On it’s own, it’s a very dry red with notes of stone fruit. But with something savory like a bite of parmiggiano or something garlic forward, it takes on a taste more akin to a bold, fruity olive oil. It’s acidic yet not too tannic, but it’s incredibly easy to sip. We’re happy to see the price as well, since we are sure to repurchase.
