We’re just a couple days past the end of Halloween season, and now we’re officially seeing all of the major restaurant chains debuting their holiday flavors. With each year that passes, we somehow get more and more inclined to forget about Thanksgiving at all. Apparently, November 1 now means it’s the holiday season.

And hey, we’re not here to criticize that since we’re big fans of holiday cheer. Plus, the holiday flavors typically end up being some of our favorites of the whole year. Just today, McDonald’s released all of their seasonal coffees to get the ball rolling with these seasonal menus, so we made sure we were among the first to try them. So without further ado, this is our official Sporked review of the McDonald’s Cookie Butter coffees.
- Cookie Butter Iced Coffee
-
Of any flavored fast food coffee, this is probably one of the best iterations we’ve ever tried. It knocks most of what Dunkin’ has to offer out of the water and presents itself as something that is authentically coffee forward, and yet the additional flavoring compliments and sings alongside the coffee flavor. It’s a bit caramel-y, but not in an artificial way at all and the subtle warming spices give the drink a complexity that edges towards the festive holiday flavors without feeling overwhelming either. To us, this is pretty much as good as a fast food coffee is gonna get.
- Cookie Butter Latte
-
This latte was a definite step up from the frappe in just about every way. The flavor is delicate and presented as sweet, warm, and complex, but without any of that heavier, artificial flavor that we often see from McDonald’s coffees specifically. Instead, is actually a really pleasant drink with the subtle spiciness that alludes to the holiday season. That said, a lot of that flavor was overwhelmed by an aggressive burnt espresso taste. It should be noted that in the latte variation of this seasonal flavor the hot latte was definitely the better option of two.
- Cookie Butter Frappe
-
Drinking the frappe option from this collection was the oddest experience. Truthfully, it tasted like it had an entirely different flavor or syrup than the rest of the collection that not only makes it unbearably sweet, but also far less successful of a drink. It tastes far more artificial and less like the simple, deep cookie butter flavors of the other three drinks. Of the drinks available in this collection, this is the only one I would not recommend and would not drink again myself. You can’t taste the coffee in it, and the overall makeup of the drink is just all off.
