When is Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day?

This year, Free Cone Day falls on Tuesday April 14 and takes place between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sounds like a real blah day—a week and a half after Easter, more than a month until Memorial Day. The perfect day to get a free Chunky Monkey pick-me-up.

Where do I get my free cone on Ben & Jerry’s Cone Day?

You can’t just go up to any old ice cream shop and demand a free cone. Nor can you stroll out of your local grocery store without paying for a pint of Cherry Garcia. You have to go to your local Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop.

Do I have to get a cone?

No! You can get a free cup of ice cream on Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day. Isn’t that nice? You do have to limit it to one scoop per person, though. But you can get it in whatever flavor you choose.

Why does Ben & Jerry’s offer Free Cone Day?

It all started back in 1979. Per the brand, “It was our way of thanking everyone for all the love and support they showed us that first year of business in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vermont.” It started spreading outside of Vermont in 1984 when a store in Saratoga Springs offered it. And then it went national in 1993 before going global in 2000.

What flavor should you pick for Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day?

Well, Sporked has an opinion on the best Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor. But if you want some more personalized advice, B&J created a quiz that you can take to find your ideal flavor.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
