What is the best cooking oil? We’ve tasted (yes, tasted) a whole lot of oil at Sporked HQ (it’s so slippery in here now) so we can tell you what the best cooking oils are—as long as you care mostly about flavor. If you’re only looking for smoke points, go somewhere else. We taste test things here and we want to make sure that even your avocado oil infuses your dish with the best flavor.

Graza Drizzle Olive Oil

Best Olive Oil

Graza Drizzle Olive Oil & Graza Sizzle Olive Oil

This olive oil is everywhere—you’ve probably seen it on influencers’ counters and in chefs’ hands. And I am here to tell you it’s not just because the packaging is so millennial cute. The olive oil is very, very good. While we preferred the Drizzle olive oil, which is meant more as a finishing oil (it’s buttery and peppery and savory), the Sizzle olive oil, which is created specifically to be cooking oil, is really great too. It’s milder and a little more straight forward but equally high quality.

Chosen Foods avocado oil

Best Avocado Oil

Chosen Foods

There’s not a ton of differences between avocado oils, but Chosen Foods just edged the others out. It’s super neutral and it has a 500 degree smoke point, which makes it some of the best oil for cooking at high heat. Plus, it’s non-GMO and glyphosate residue free, should you care about such things. You can also get it as a spray.

Truff White Truffle Infused Olive Oil

Best Truffle Oil

Truff White Truffle Infused Olive Oil

The only truffle oil you probably know by name is also the best truffle oil we’ve tasted—specifically the white truffle Truff. It’s made with real truffle and tastes natural—no weird artificial flavor. Drizzle this on fries or pizza or infuse it into a sauce. It’s the best cooking oil for instant luxury. And, yes, the bottle looks great too.

Kadoya Pure Sesame Oil (Best of the Best)

Best Sesame Oil

Kadoya Pure Sesame Oil

I am constantly running out of sesame oil. I love it. And this sesame oil is the best around. It’s affordable, it’s available, and it’s boldly sesame flavored. And it’s so toasty. It’s definitely the best cooking oil to stock up on if you’re a frequent stir-fryer or if you love sesame noodles or if you’re like me and just seem to use it on everything.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
