Big Sipz hit U.S. shelves in 2023 but it feels like we’ve known them our whole lives. The colorful little balls of “wine-based cocktail” have saturated the cheap, fruity, liquor store impulse buy market. Flavors include traditional cocktails like Margarita, Pina Colada, and Hard Lemonade. But the brand is also known for more conceptual flavors like one simply called ‘Merica. Now, Big Sipz has dropped another non-flavor-flavor, just in time for Valentine’s Day: Diamond.

We were sent a sample of Big Sipz Diamond. It came in a little silver box and when I opened it up I was presented with a ball of blue drink surrounded by diamond-shaped glass crystals. “I do!” I said. “I do want to try you and review you for the website I work for!” And that’s exactly what I did. What does Diamond taste like? Should you give it to your sweetie this Feb. 14th? Read on to find out.

New Big Sipz Flavor!

Big Sipz Diamond

Pros: The color is beautiful. It’s the color of those hot springs in Iceland. It really is an icy blue—like a Husky’s eyes. Gorg. And there is alcohol in it. It’s 16%, which is higher than wine but lower than most liqueurs. A respectable amount of alcohol. The flavor is…interesting. It is advertised as being “blueberry citrus with vanilla.” But it’s more blue raspberry Pedialyte. It’s legit salty. And while that’s not typically what I want out of a cocktail it is a unique experience.

Cons: So, yeah. It really does taste salty like Pedialyte or any other electrolyte-heavy hydration drink. And it also has a sort of mentholated flavor that reminds me of some medicine I had as a kid.

Verdict: If you could actually buy a Diamond Big Sipz in the box we got it in, I might say go for it for the kitsch factor. But the drink alone is simply too weird to recommend.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
