Sometimes I get ahead of myself when I’m doing new product reviews on camera. That’s kind of what happened when I tried the new Peppercorn BLT Whopper from Burger King. I have my phone. I have the sandwich. Seems like all I need right? No, lady—you need to understand what you’re eating! Because I took a bite of this burger and I couldn’t really put it together—was the peppery flavor on the meat? In the sauce? What kind of cheese is this and why is it white?

Now that I’ve done a google and I understand what I ate, I can tell you that the new Peppercorn BLT Whopper consists of a flame broiled Whopper patty, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a peppercorn aioli, all on a sesame seed bun. The most important info: It’s good. Like, really good. Here’s my full review.

New Whopper!

Peppercorn BLT Whopper

Pros: Whoppers are always saucy, and this one is no exception. The peppercorn aioli is really lovely. It has a zippy flavor that makes it taste like aioli rather than regular ol’ mayo, although I could’ve sworn the pepper flavor was coming from the seasoning on the burger patty rather than the sauce. My colleagues Ariana Losch and Justine Sterling both thought the sauce tasted kind of like one of the creamy sauces that would come on sushi. It’s a really nice complement to the bacon. When we recently tried McDonald’s burgers, we disliked all the bacon burgers because the bacon just totally took over the flavor profile. They just didn’t taste like McDonald’s burgers anymore. But this bacon just contributes a nice subtle smoky flavor that doesn’t overpower the burger patty. This is what a bacon cheeseburger should taste like!

Cons: The Swiss cheese is very American cheese-like. It’s slick and melty rather than stretchy and it gives the burger an additional creamy element, which is kind of nice. That said, if you had your heart set on more authentic Swiss, you might be disappointed.

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
