On rare, upsetting, and unprecedented occasions, Costco products can disappoint us. Me, specifically. I’m always the most upset when Costco’s groceries don’t live up to my standards because I want to believe, like the little fool that I am, that everything Costco does is perfect. Y’all, I don’t even have a Costco membership. I’m just looking for a hero in these dark, dark times. Just one corporation that doesn’t steal from the poor only to give to the rich. Costco is my Batman, basically.

But I’ll be so brave and say something that everyone else is already saying: Those viral Costco mini tacos that people were calling a dupe for Jack-in-the-Box? They ain’t good. Really, they’re pretty sad. Like, oddly wet and flavorless. Which is really confusing—because we actually loved another version of those tacos from the same brand, Don Lee Farms. But you can’t buy the good ones at Costco. Only the sad ones.
Costco only sells the Shredded Chicken Crispy Tacos from Don Lee Farms. Skip them. Instead, find these somewhere else:
We love, love, love CrispUps Chicken Birria & Cotija Crispy Tacos. These are from the same parent company as the brand at Costco, Don Lee Farms, but they’re actually worth buying. The filling is light but satisfying, with tender shreds of chicken and tangy cotija. The mix of corn flour and cornstarch give the soft taco shells a nice, bubbly crisp out of the air fryer. They are really simple and fast-food adjacent, for sure, but that’s what makes them the perfect late night snack.
Bonus: They’re gluten-free.
These literally won our award for the best gluten-free snack of 2025. We had no idea they were gluten-free when we tried them, it was like a fun surprise. Some of you will absorb this info and think, even subconsciously, “Eh, if they’re gluten-free, how good could they really taste?” Please don’t be like that. Please believe us. These are worth your freezer space, people, we promise.
