New Doritos Bring Heat to a Fan-Favorite Flavor

Brand new Doritos are rolling out to stores right now (they’ve already been spotted at Target!). This new flavor is called “Spicy Cool Ranch Doritos Dinamita” (dumb name, too many words, sorry not sorry). You might see them and think, Ariana, those aren’t Doritos… those are Takis, ya’ idiot. Nope. These are a new flavor of Doritos Dinamita, aka the lesser-known Doritos snack line shaped like rolled tortilla chips.

So Doritos are duping Takis? Wait, how long has this been going on? 

Doritos have had their own version of rolled corn tortilla chips (Dinamita) since 2012, with flavors like chile limon and smoky chile queso. To be honest, I rarely see these in stores—it feels like they aren’t typically in stock and get pulled from production pretty frequently. Even Trader Joe’s makes a Takis dupe that gets more recognition than Doritos Dinamita. But who knows? Spicy Cool Ranch Doritos Dinamita might be incredible. 

Side note: Doritos previously released a Flamin’ Hot Cool Ranch flavor before, which we liked, but I’m curious what this more generic “spicy cool ranch” will taste like. I bet it’s delicious… and I bet certain people (*cough* the rest of the Sporked team who think Takis are too aggressive *cough*) will like them better than regular old Takis. Takis might get out-Taki’d here. 

Has Takis ever duped Doritos? 

Takis is my favorite snack troll, but surprisingly, they haven’t duped the big D yet. They’ve made every shape of chip (regular, wavy, kettle), alongside Pringles dupes and, most recently, Cheetos dupes. Their dupes don’t have much finesse; they’re pretty dusty-crusty, if I do say so myself. Takis OG rolled corn chips and crunchy Hot Nuts are classic, fun, delicious, but man oh man do their other snack lines need an upgrade. I admire the game; I just don’t think they’re playing it well. 

Will Takis ever dupe Doritos in retaliation? 

God, I hope so. I love drama. And I don’t see what’s stopping them, really. “Takis Triangles” already sounds like a thing that should exist. Snack war! Snack war! Snack war! And look, I tend to root for the little guy, and between Takis and Doritos, Takis are definitely still the little guy. But I can’t be mad at this. This is karma, Takis. You’ve brought this on yourself.
