I Tried Dunkin’s Banana Drinks, Here’s My Honest Review

Back in February, news leaked that, starting on March 4th, Dunkin’ would launch a banana-themed menu to celebrate the addition of new banana syrup and cold foam. This included a Bananarama Iced Matcha, a direct competitor to Starbucks’ recently debuted Banana Bread Matcha, and a Banana Frozen Chocolate. Are Dunkin’s latest line of potassium-rich beverages any good? I tried two to find out.

As a big fan of Starbucks’ Banana Bread Matcha, I was expecting to fall in love with Dunkin’s Bananarama Iced Matcha too, but Starbucks has the upper hand when it comes to texture, as theirs is creamier thanks to the cold foam. Dunkin’s is more watery and less enjoyable overall. But my main issue with the Bananarama Iced Matcha is that it tastes too artificial and sugary. I gave up on it after sipping half of my medium-sized drink, whereas with Starbucks’ Banana Bread Matcha, I don’t care if it’s Venti, I’m having all of it. If Dunkin’ switched to cold foam instead of banana syrup for its banana-flavored matcha, that could be a game-changer.

Banana Frozen Chocolate

I love frozen “hot” chocolate and bananas, so the idea of getting both in one drink sounded dreamy. While some other outlets that reviewed it felt the banana flavor overpowered the chocolate, I don’t consider that a bad thing. It tastes just like a banana split in milkshake form. It takes me back to childhood banana splits at Baskin-Robbins. It’s delicious, but it has the same amount of calories as a full meal at 705, so it’s not advisable to have it on a regular basis. When you order it via the Dunkin’ app, there isn’t an option to switch the milk from whole to plant-based, so it felt even more indulgent. Tasty as it was, my stomach couldn’t handle more than a few sips.
