It’s fair to say that most of the secret menu items at In-N-Out really aren’t that secret. The fast food chain, which is the go-to of countless celebrities (Guy Fieri? Padma Lakshmi? Michael B. Jordan when celebrating his Oscar win? They all go to the same place, folks), is actually very open about the ways you can adapt your order with “secret” changes, so much so that it advertises it on its website. However, there are a few genuinely secretive choices that it’s slightly less open about – and a burger for your dog is one of them.

Wait, what? Yep. This is the Pup Patty. Let’s talk about it.
Pup Patties: Marginally More Interesting Than Purina
The Pup Patty from In-N-Out is essentially a completely unadorned burger patty, with no toppings, no salt, nothing – which therefore makes it safe to eat for your dog, or your cat for that matter (provided that it’s part of a balanced diet). Its lack of salt also means that it’s a good choice for anyone who’s trying to cut down on their sodium intake, although any additional toppings or bread might slightly knock you back on that one.
Although the Pup Patty is one of the lesser-known In-N-Out secret menu items, and it isn’t technically a thing, the restaurant has all but confirmed that it’s an option. “While a ‘pup patty’ is not listed on our menu, our Associates are happy to prepare a meat patty without salt for any customer or for their four-legged friend,” stated an In-N-Out representative in a statement to SavorNation, seen via KTLA 5. The Pup Patty will cost you about $2, depending on where you are.
Remember, Guys – It’s Really Not That Official at All
It’s important to keep in mind that the name “Pup Patty” is somewhat colloquial – by which we mean, if you ask for one, the person at the counter might not know what on earth you’re talking about. In the past, this has caused a bit of consternation amongst customers. “Hey In-N-Out Reddit community, just a quick note to clarify that when we refer to pup patties, we’re talking about the meat patties served without salt, even though our system doesn’t have a specific “pup patty” button,” said an employee on Reddit. “So, if you see us listing them as “meat patties with no salt,” please understand it’s the same thing and not an oversight.”
The employee went on to state that a customer had gotten mad at them after not listing the burger under the name “Pup Patty,” having seen this ordering trick on TikTok. Honestly, some people need to calm down.
While you’re there, make your own order a bit more interesting, too: Grab some pickles and chili peppers on your burger, or grab your fries with sauce and grilled onions (but without the cheese – you’ll save cash, and it’s less messy). Hey, your dog isn’t the only one that can have fun.
