Have You Tried the New Secret Starbucks Latte Yet?

Why do people love secret menus so much? ‘Cos honestly, these days, you can’t move for them. Virtually every fast food chain has a secret menu of some kind, and every week it feels like there’s some newfangled item to order (the McDonald’s cotton candy Sprite is the latest addition, by our count).

Now, whether these items are any good or not is obviously up for debate – but restaurants have clearly cottoned on to the fact that customers like that feeling of exclusivity. These days, “secret” menus are heavily publicized by the chains themselves. Last year, Starbucks went public with its official secret menu, and since then, it’s been adding new items to it, including its all-new Cake Batter Latte. Okay, we’ll bite.

How to Order the Cake Batter Latte

Starbies posted a handy explainer on how to order its new Cake Batter Latte on its Instagram, removing any sense of mystery or exclusivity from the drink, but at the very least, ensuring that we don’t have to trawl through Reddit to find instructions. The bad news is that ordering it is a real mouthful. To get the Cake Batter Latte, you ask for a venti iced oatmilk caffe latte with blond espresso, and then add three pumps of hazelnut syrup, three pumps of sugar-free vanilla syrup, and three scoops of vanilla bean powder. Oh, and it’s probably also a good idea to say sorry to the poor barista who has to make it in the middle of their busy shift.

Now, you may have to take a deep breath to recite this one, but thankfully, it looks as though the Cake Batter Latte is worth it. “Can confirm, it’s good! I got a grande & customized syrups to that size! YUM!” said a comment on the Starbucks Instagram page, one of several that sang this drink’s praises. Starbucks also confirmed that you can order it hot, if you want. If you prefer a smaller drink, you can opt for a grande and ask for a pump/scoop less of each ingredient. 

Can I Tell You a Secret? It’s All in the App

If you want to try any of Starbucks’ other secret menu items, the coffee chain makes it pretty easy for ya. Provided that you’re signed up to its Starbucks Rewards loyalty scheme, you can find the current secret menu drinks in the Starbucks app. These include a Cookies and Cream Cold Brew, a White Chocolate Shaken Espresso, and a Dragonfruit and Peach Refresher. These are probably the worst-kept secrets in the world, but they’re definitely fun. 

Starbucks’ continued championing of its secret menu does feel a little strange, considering that last year, it announced that it was simplifying its menu and removing a load of drinks from it. But hey. We’re not the ones making these decisions. Who knows how these corporate folks think?
