If I had a dollar for every time someone in the comments has called our taste buds “moronic” (and those are our nice readers), I’d be living in the south of France off a nice little retirement fund by now. And that’s my way of saying: Sometimes, when we recommend a grocery item to you guys, it’s nice to get a little external validation from a well-respected chef. That way we can stand together in solidarity as the court of public opinion comes for our throats.

Experts agree: Bianco DiNapoli Tomatoes are the best canned tomatoes.

Who are the experts in question? That would be us, a team of professional taste testers from professional taste testing school… and some guy named Matthew, I think? He’s, like, a big-time chef, or something. I think he was on The Bear?

Chef Matty Matheson. Yes, he is a “big-time chef,” Ariana. (And yes, he was on The Bear.)

I’m kidding! Relax! We’re big fans of yours, Matty. (Neil is literally my favorite character on the show—after Sydney, obvi.) Anyway, you’re on the record saying that Bianco DiNapoli Tomatoes are the best canned tomatoes, and I don’t know if you, like, follow our content at all… but we also think that. And we tried at least two dozen other brands. Are we best friends now?

What’s so good about Bianco DiNapoli Tomatoes?

Well, no one says it better than our BFF Matty Matheson (we’re all getting matching tattoos of a tomato next week, btw) in his interview with GQ: “When you eat these tomatoes, you can literally imagine yourself sitting on a hillside in Tuscany and having a fresh tomato that tastes the way that a tomato actually should. These are tomatoes that taste like strawberries, not those cold little tomatoes that taste like fucking pennies.”

In our taste test, we loved the way these cans include a bit of basil and sea salt, adding even more savoriness to them. And the tomatoes are texturally perfect; they cut like butter without being too firm or too soft. You won’t find a brighter base for a sauce, we promise you. They just get that balance of sweet, tart, and salty just right.

Where can I buy them?

You can find a pack of six on Amazon for $34.99. But I also see them available at big grocery stores like Walmart and Target, at least here in California. They aren’t cheap for a canned food item, but tomatoes rarely are. (Our other top brands come in at around the same price. If you want a much cheaper option, we loved the Diced & Fire Roasted Canned Tomatoes with Green Chiles from Trader Joe’s, which are only $1.99!)

Howdy! I’m a Sporked writer based in L.A., and you can find me overstaying my welcome at just about any coffee shop with free wifi, no matter the speed. Sadly, I can never move back to my home state, Florida, because even if the seafood is totally unmatched, there aren’t enough Mediterranean or Korean restaurants to keep me sane.
