McDonald’s Is Bringing Its Beloved Chicken Big Mac Back 

Another day, another fighter enters the fray in the Chicken Sandwich Wars. Since 2019, fast food chains have been trying to outdo each other with their chicken sandwiches, and they’ve typically done so with simpler, chicken-and-pickle affairs that essentially try to emulate the kind that Popeye’s and Chick-Fil-A make. Big Chicken has never been busier.

In 2026, though, the chicken sandwich wars are going bigger: Carl’s Jr. has just announced a new fried chicken sandwich that feels bolder and meatier than ever before, and now, McDonald’s is reviving its Chicken Big Mac. There’s just one problem: It’s only available in Canada. Here’s the lowdown.

The Chicken Big Mac Returns – But Not for Long

McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac will be hitting its Canadian stores once more on March 31, following a bunch of runs around the world that helped it generate some lovely buzz. For anyone who’s never had a Chicken Big Mac before, it’s basically exactly what it sounds like: This sandwich is a regular Big Mac, but with chicken patties in place of the burger ones. The sauce, the toppings, the cheese, the little hockey puck bun in the middle of it – that all remains the same.

McDonald’s has several other chicken sandwiches on its menu, but the Chicken Big Mac kinda blows them all out of the water in terms of scale. The only problem for US customers, though, is that this Canadian return is not accompanied by any releases elsewhere. It’s also not going to be around forever: This is a limited-time return, and unless there’s a significant surge of new popularity for this sandwich, it’s probably only going to stick around for a couple of months, tops. 

Fan Response Is…Mixed

When the news broke that McDonald’s was bringing the Chicken Big Mac back, people weren’t exactly falling over themselves to celebrate. Over on Instagram, one commenter said “Honestly, I wasn’t impressed the first time around.” Another said of the burger, “it’s actually not that bad,” which kinda feels like it’s damning it with very faint praise. 

To be fair, other people chimed in saying that they were desperate for a US release of the Chicken Big Mac. The sandwich hasn’t been in US restaurants since late 2024, so it’s been juuuust long enough to build up a slight sense of nostalgia (for anyone who says the nostalgia cycle has to be longer than that, all bets are off in 2026 – time feels weird these days). Our favorite comment, though, has to be from the person who said “Let’s see the CEO do this one,” clearly alluding to the now-infamous viral moment when Chris Kempczinski tried the Big Arch (which has subsequently been made fun of by Wendy’s, Burger King, and Costco CEOs).
