New Airheads Sodas Are Floating into the World This Month

Oh, Airheads. Laffy Taffy’s weird cousin. The 25 cent staple of community pool snack stands everywhere. The only candy that magically gets shorter when you shake it. Airheads are unequivocally “their own thing,” and they are not afraid to lean into that (remember those weird ads with the inflating heads?). But this month, they are entering the mainstream. Or rather, the sodastream (no, not the kitchen gadget). That’s right, in September Airheads sodas are hitting stores in “classic” Airheads flavors, and we could not be more stoked.

What Airheads flavors we talking about? Have they made any disturbing inflation-related ads about this product, too?

The four “classic” Airheads flavors being translated as carbonated beverages are Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Orange, and Watermelon. Now, I could be in the minority here, but my local public pool was way more likely to have Grape, Cherry, or White Mystery flavor than Strawberry. The other three flavors are definitely “classics,” and boy did they hit hard post-swim on a 104-degree day.

Will taffy-flavored soda actually taste good?

For me, the main worry with candy-flavored soda is always, “Will that soda be the sweetest thing I have ever tasted in my entire multi-decade existence?” to which I say, “Maybe!” It’s entirely possible these Airheads sodas are too sweet, but it is also possible, given Airheads’ sour-and-sweet nature, that the soda will have a nice balance of flavors. Only time will tell, and given that these bevs are reportedly heading to stores this month, there is not much time left for us to wait before time does, in fact, tell.

Are Airheads Sodas here for the long haul?

These don’t appear to be a limited-edition item, but Airheads are sort of going out on a limb here with a new product, so I say if you’re interested, snap some of these up quick and see if they are the Airheads flavored sodas you have always been dreaming of in that big inflatable airhead of yours.
