We’ve all tried making sourdough at one point or another. Maybe you got bored during the Pandemic. Maybe you wanted to be just like Taylor Swift. Maybe you thought you’d start prepping for the apocalypse. Whatever the reason, you, like the rest of us, probably made one loaf and then totally forgot about that gloop of a starter lurking in the back of your fridge for god knows how long. As that starter died, so too did your fantasies of a home rich with the aroma of fresh-baked bread. Well, Bath & Body Works has a fix: They just launched a new Homemade Sourdough Candle

What do you mean “sourdough candle?”

It’s a new three-wick candle in Bath & Body Works’ “Rooted” collection, which also includes Spring Apple and Carrot & Nectarine candles. It’s made with a soy wax blend, boasts 45 hours of burn time, and purports to smell like fresh-baked sourdough, whipped butter, and olive oil.

Does it smell good?

One writer from Taste of Home confirms that it does truly smell like sourdough with a “creamy sweetness” that’s reminiscent of butter. She goes on to say that, while strong, it’s not an overpowering aroma, and that it’s savory rather than sweet. It even fooled one of her friends into thinking she had been baking. I’d say that’s proof of a mission accomplished.

How long will this sourdough candle be available?

The Rooted collection was launched for spring, so chances are this candle won’t be around for long. You can snag your own on the Bath & Body Works website for $24.95, which is more than a loaf of sourdough but well worth the price of not having a sad, neglected jar of goo next to the yogurt for weeks.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
