Dairy Queen’s Drops New Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich in Texas

It looks like the chicken sandwich wars are finally getting a little more interesting. For years now, restaurants have all been going head-to-head to make the best version possible of a simple, Popeyes-style chicken sandwich, made of barely anything but a crunchy piece of chicken and a pickle. Well, that’s all been very fun. But now the chains are going big. Carl’s Jr. has just announced a new, bacon-and-onion-ring-containing chicken sandwich, McDonald’s is bringing back the Chicken Big Mac, KFC has its returning Snacker, which you can jazz up with coleslaw, and Wendy’s is revamping its Spicy Chicken Sandwich with a sweet potato bun. It’s a time of great change.

Well, what’s more adventurous than a spicy chicken sandwich that doesn’t contain chicken at all, but steak instead? That’s the gauntlet that Dairy Queen’s throwing down. Introducing the new Spicy DUDE Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich, which is sadly only available in Texas.

What is the Spicy DUDE Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich?

DQ’s new sandwich was recently announced on its @dairyqueentx Instagram account, which, as its name suggests, serves the people of Texas with the chain’s news. The Spicy DUDE Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich is a variation on its existing Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich (so really, you could say that Dairy Queen has had the edge on all of the chains I mentioned above for a while now), but amped up to the next level. This sandwich contains a chicken-fried steak covered in pepper jack cheese, with a one-two punch of jalapeños and a creamy jalapeño ranch. Tomatoes and lettuce give it a much-needed boost of freshness, and it’s all piled into a soft bun.

According to the CEO of Texas Dairy Queen Operators’ Council, Lou Romanus, this new sandwich leans into the state’s hotter climes. “We know that Texans are no strangers to the heat,” Romanus said to KRIS 6. “The Spicy Dude is a fiery twist on the classic Dude Chicken Fried Steak sandwich that DQ fans across Texas already know and love.”

How long will this new Dairy Queen sandwich last?

The Spicy DUDE Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich launched on March 30, and it won’t be around for very long. It’ll be available at participating Texas stores through April 26, or while supplies last. So, get yourself down there if you want to see this new chicken fried steak affair in action.

The chain recently announced its new breakfast collection, which is due to hit its restaurants by the end of the month, and which will feature three menu items inspired by morning favorites.
