If you think all pizza cutters are the same, then you haven’t tried out pizza cutters in a head-to-head competition like I have. There are some absolutely useless pizza cutters out there. But you don’t have to worry about accidentally purchasing anything but the best pizza cutter anymore. We tested nine pizza cutters of all types, all under $20, and found the best to buy.
How we tested the pizza cutters:
We cooked up three different styles of frozen pizza: thin crust, classic puffy crust, and Detroit style. Then, we tried each pizza cutter on each pizza to judge how well each one cut.
What we looked for in the best pizza cutter:
- Clean slice: We looked for pizza cutters that could slice through a pizza crust and toppings cleanly—no having to go over and over it again and again. And we wanted that slice to be crisp, not raggety.
- Easy to use: You shouldn’t have to read an instruction manual to operate a pizza cutter. And you shouldn’t have to contort your body or use actual muscle in order to complete a slice.
- Easy to clean: Cutting pizza is messy work. The best pizza cutter should be a cinch to rid of sauce and cheese.
We tried budget-friendly pizza wheels, handleless pizza wheels, mezzaluna pizza cutters, and even one pair of pizza scissors (which were embarrassingly bad). Three made our ranking. Keep scrolling to find the best pizza cutter for you.
Best Pizza Cutters to Buy
- Kitchy Pizza Cutter Wheel ($12.99)
-
This handleless pizza cutter comes with a retractable blade cover, it’s easy to take apart, and it’s dishwasher safe. Plus, it takes up very little space in a drawer. I like how much control you have cutting, but you do need to use considerable pressure to cut a clean slice. And it’s not great for cutting Detroit-style crusts—your fingers get too close to the pizza. Still, it worked much better than the other handleless pizza wheel we tried, and if you’re low on drawer space this is the best pizza cutter to buy.

- Checkered Chef Pizza Rocker ($9.99)
-
We didn’t expect to like this mezzaluna pizza cutter as much as we did. It’s really light—it practically feels like it’s made of aluminum even though it’s stainless steel. But it sliced through the Detroit-style crust better than most of the other pizza cutters we tested. It makes cutting a big, thick, square pizza super easy, but it’s not the best pizza cutter for round pies—too hard to get the right angle. The nice thing about a pizza cutter like this, though, is you can use it for other things. You could pretend you opened up your own Chop’t location and chop a salad into bite-sized chunks with ease. If you’re looking for a cheap pizza rocker, this is the best mezzaluna pizza cutter to buy.

- OXO Good Grips Pizza Wheel ($17.95)
-
The best pizza wheel cutter we tried is also the best pizza cutter all around. OXO may seem like a predictable and even basic pick for our number one best pizza cutter, but it’s a kitchen standard for good reason. The company makes good stuff. This pizza cutter has great heft and balance, which makes it easy to achieve a clean, single slice through a pizza. It feels good in your hand and it’s a breeze to use. It’s not sexy, but it’s reliable. And it’s easy enough to clean, too. Just watch out for the blade if you keep it loose in a drawer like I do. OXO didn’t reinvent the (pizza) wheel, but it makes the best pizza cutter we tested.
