Diet Coke Lime Is Back—But We Wish It Weren’t

I gave an absolutely glowing review to returning retro Diet Cherry Coke (which I am told will be returning permanently, no longer exclusive to Kroger in 2026), so I was very excited for the release of a second retro-inspired Diet Coke flavor: Diet Coke Lime. After a small hunt I managed to get my hands on it, so let’s pop it open and see if it lives up to the hype.

Pros: Even though the design of the retro label used for this release actually predates Diet Coke Lime itself, I am a huge fan of it and think more brands should use throwback labels more often. We’re living in an era of nostalgia and I am here for every second of it.

Cons: You might notice that I didn’t mention anything about the flavor in the “Pros” section. Unfortunately that’s because there is little redeemable about this flavor of Diet Coke. The lime flavor is incredibly muted, to the point that many sips left me feeling like I was just drinking your average, run-of-the-mill Diet Coke. The traditional diet soda aftertaste is much more present in this than what I experienced with Diet Cherry Coke, as well.

Verdict: If you enjoy Diet Coke with a DROP of lime flavoring (or if that sounds good to you), this might be worth adding to your list. However, if you’re hoping for a lime flavored cola, I think you’ll want to look elsewhere.
