This new Cheez-It Grooves flavor might not be the most groundbreaking new Cheez-It product (that would have to be the gluten free Cheez-Its), but that doesn’t mean it’s any less worthy of your attention. Why? Because Cheez-It Grooves rock. And nacho-flavored things, when done right, also rock. Sorry if that isn’t the most eloquent of arguments, but go ahead and try to refute it.
The Sporked team recently tasted a few of the new Cheez-It products just hitting shelves, including this new Grooves flavor. Read on to find out how it was received and if you should be seeking it out the next time you waltz through the snack aisles.
New Cheez-It Grooves!
Cheez-It Grooves Loaded Nachos
Pros: In general, Cheez-It Grooves are good. The crispy, crunchy snap is great. But the grooves within the Grooves are particularly well-suited for a flavor like this. The flavor dust settles into the grooves and gives you a tasty punch of nacho essence. And it’s good nacho essence. Like many other nacho-flavored things, the primary flavor is that of taco seasoning, but you also get some good sour cream-esque tang. It all blends really well with the baked in cheese flavor and ends up tasting a lot like if Taco Bell Nachos BellGrande was a cracker.
Cons: If you do not like the flavor of a stereotypical taco seasoning packet, then you will not be a huge fan of these new Cheez-Its. Also, if you were hoping for some Wonka-esque experience, you’re probably going to be let down. I didn’t detect any flavors of meat, salsa, beans, etc. These Cheez-Its taste like simple nachos—not that platter of nachos from your favorite sports bar.
Verdict: It was tough for me to stop eating these. I’d say that’s a pretty good sign that they’re darn good. If you like the seasoning in Taco Bell ground beef, then it’s safe to say you’ll like these too.
Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients.
Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it.
What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now).
Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
