How could you not love ice cream? It’s nostalgic and comforting, there for when you need a boost of happiness or want to celebrate good times. But with the amount of sugar and fat most brands have, it can be hard to enjoy the aftermath when your body feels awful, from the high to the low. The ice cream “hangover” is no joke! So, what if you could get all the fun of treating yourself to ice cream without the downsides? With these healthier ice cream brands, you can have as much ice cream as you want without worry.
Rebel Butter Pecan
This is keto ice cream has only 1g of sugar per pint, but it’s still dreamy and creamy. The vanilla adds subtle sweetness and the crunch of the pecans provides a nice contrast to the silky smooth texture. There’s no skimping on the pecans, either; they’re present in every bite. I almost finished the entire pint in one sitting, which wouldn’t have been a bad thing, as it’s only 680 calories.
Halo Top Birthday Cake
As a kid, one of the most popular treats at my classmates’ birthday parties was Cedar Crest vanilla ice cream, which came with its own wooden spoon. I long for that ice cream whenever I get a hankering for something sweet, and this Halo Top flavor comes very close. The best part is it’s only 300 calories per pint.
Cosmic Bliss Twisted Cookie Dough
Cosmic Bliss is technically not a “healthy” ice cream. It’s fairly high in calories (850 calories per pint) and doesn’t skimp on sugar, but it’s made with clean, organic, gluten-free ingredients, cutting the artificiality of your average store-bought dessert. It doesn’t have as many cookie dough chunks as I’d like, but the vanilla and chocolate ice cream swirled together is delicious. And even with its 850 calories per pint, it’s still a slightly healthier option than leading brands’ cookie dough ice cream, such as Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, which has 1,140 calories.
Yasso Spoonables Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Debate aside about whether frozen Greek yogurt counts as ice cream, Yasso’s cookie dough flavor is addictive and doesn’t feel like a healthier option. It doesn’t skimp on the chocolate and cookie bits, while having a slight tanginess from the yogurt. Each container only has 410 calories, making it one of the least calorific cookie-dough frozen treats.
Orange n’ Cream Goodpop
Another ice cream I grew up eating was the Orange Creamsicle, a perfect hybrid of a popsicle and ice cream. While other brands have released their own versions of the nostalgic classic, Goodpop’s iteration is my favorite because it’s only 90 calories per popsicle, has slightly less sugar than the original Creamsicle, and still has a similar tangy, sweet taste. It’s also dairy and gluten-free, made with coconut milk.
