If you’ve ever complained about all these tallboy energy drinks being too big for your petite hands to carry, GHOST Energy got your letters. Yes, GHOST is debuting two new flavors exclusively in half-sized and half-caffeinated 8.4oz cans. The brand was nice enough to send a few sample cans over to your favorite energy drink reviewer. We’ll tackle Strawberry Watermelon in a few days; let’s crack open GHOST OG Colada and see if it can transport us somewhere warmer than Ohio.

GHOST OG Colada Energy

New GHOST Energy!

GHOST OG Colada Energy

Pros: While GHOST OG has a semi-indescribable “energy drink” flavor, this new GHOST OG Colada variant is, fittingly, all pineapple and coconut. The former is the standout here, delivering a genuinely impressive “real” pineapple flavor in a zero-sugar energy drink. The simple coconut layer underneath that pineapple punchiness keeps GHOST OG Colada from being too sweet. I was already a big fan of GHOST OG (to the point I included it in my “Four Aces” of the energy drink space), but this tropical twist on that modern classic might have just overtaken the throne.

Cons: You’re gonna have to love pineapple to love this drink. Both my taste-testers commented on the acidity and lasting tang this drink left in their mouth. As someone who’d drink straight pineapple juice to the point of upsetting my mouth’s pH balance, this drink is perfect—for me. Use your best judgment on whether that’ll also apply to you.

When did GHOST start doing slim cans?

Funny enough, the very first purchasable slim can from GHOST was their original “Original” energy drink! Stick with me: GHOST was looking to carve out a piece of Red Bull’s dominance as a mixer in bars. The upstart brand created their “Original” flavor, also known as OG, specifically to function as a zero-sugar alternative to the blue-and-silver-canned beast dominating nightlife. For an entire year, GHOST Original was exclusive to their bar and restaurant partners—which made GHOST superfans pretty unhappy, since the brand’s distribution at that point was anything but widespread.

After that yearlong test, the brand decided to bring both the flavor and format to retail, debuting Original and other select flavors in 4-packs of 8.4oz slim cans. GHOST OG Colada and Strawberry Watermelon will be the first time the brand offers individual 8.4oz cans in retail. As of now, these flavors are both exclusive to convenience stores; there are no plans to launch these flavors in GHOST’s standard 16oz cans at this time.
