The Red Bull news just doesn’t stop coming, y’all. It isn’t all new flavors though; Red Bull is also taking a look back at existing flavors to determine whether improvements can be made. Case in point, Red Bull Zero. It’s the dark grey one (not to be confused with Red Bull Sugarfree, which is blue). Or, at least, it used to be. Because it’s time for a change. Say hello to a brand new version of Red Bull Zero.
What’s different about this new Red Bull Zero?
Aside from the new light grey-blue color, the primary difference between Red Bull Zero V1 and Red Bull Zero V2 is the non-sugar sweeteners used in the formula. Sweetener science is always progressing and improving, so the long-standing Red Bull Zero formula was ripe for an update. The earlier Red Bull Zero formula was sweetened with acesulfame potassium and sucralose, while new Red Bull Zero is sweetened with monk fruit extract alongside erythritol and sucralose.
When and where is this formula going to be released?
It’s everywhere right now. Red Bull announced this new release would start popping up on shelves globally around the first of this year, with the U.S. release specifically hitting on January 6, 2025. So, by the time you’re reading this, Red Bull Zero is either already on shelves or will be there very soon.
What does new Red Bull Zero taste like?
We were lucky enough to get a few early cans directly from our friends at Red Bull and found out.
It is very reminiscent of the original Red Bull flavor—whatever that is. Per the press release, Red Bull claims that this drink blends notes of “tutti frutti with the taste of pineapple and vanilla.”. I’m not sure I get all those very specific notes in this can (maybe some tutti-frutti), but it’s pleasant regardless. A few taste-testers expressed a preference to the taste of Red Bull Zero over the original Red Bull formula, so it does go beyond just being the sugarless version of a classic. On the flip side, one taste-tester noted that she got an unpleasant aftertaste from the monk fruit and sucralose.
Overall? I’d give it 7.5 Sporks.
What size cans does the new Red Bull Zero come in?
Within the next few months, Red Bull Zero will be available in every can size imaginable: 8.4oz, 12oz, 16oz, and the gargantuan 20oz. I definitely prefer my energy drinks around 16oz (or more, as I’ve recently taken to mixing 16oz worth of energy drink mix into 24oz of water), so I’m glad to see this will be available in the full range of sizes once stores have stocked it fully.
The new Red Bull Zero is fantastic !!! Not only is it sugar free and low carb, but the 12 oz can has only 30mg of sodium, compared to most of their other flavors coming in at 150mg to 200mg. That’s a big deal for those of us that need to watch our salt intake !!!
