Hey, McDonald’s. Jack in the Box sees your returning Shamrock Shake and raises you two new green drinks—and they’re NOT mint-flavored.

Between the Shamrock Shake, Wendy’s Thin Mint Frosty, and Costco’s new Mint Sundae, we’re currently drowning in a sea of minty treats. And Jack knows that. So he’s dropping some sweet green counterprogramming this season with two new matcha drinks

What are these new matcha drinks at Jack in the Box?

I’m so glad you asked! First up we’ve got the Iced Matcha Latte. It’s matcha tea with sweetened cream and vanilla, and it goes for $2.99. Okay, yeah, bit of a snooze. But, still, I haven’t seen another fast food chain take on the uber-trendy latte—and at under $3, this is certainly a cheaper alternative to any coffee shop latte. Good on you, Jack.

More importantly, though, Jack in the Box is dropping an Oreo Matcha Shake. What?! I know! This is a vanilla shake mixed with matcha tea and Oreo cookie crumbles, topped with whipped topping. And it’s just $4.99, which ain’t too bad for a milkshake.

Will these new Jack in the Box drinks be any good?

Personally, I’m a massive green tea ice cream fan. In fact, I was recently asked what my favorite ice cream was and I said green tea. But I’ve never experienced a cookies and cream take on the flavor. It could be a huge mistake, but it also could be totally brilliant. In any case, at least it’s a break from the barrage of minty ice creams coming our way.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
