The food world never ceases to surprise us: Just when we think we’ve seen everything, something new and deeply weird is around the corner. Today, that comes in the form of Dragon Pharma’s mayo, which is a zero calorie, zero sodium, zero sugar mayonnaise product… that it says tastes just like the real thing. Considering that it’s only really been in the last few years that light mayos have actually started getting good, forgive us if we’re deeply suspicious of this one.

But let’s get to the bottom of it. How is this mayo actually made? And is it really any good? We’ve got everything you need to know.
Dragon Pharma Mayo
On its website, Dragon Pharma states that its whole-lotta-nothin’ mayo (which costs $8.99 per bottle, just so you know) is made with filtered water, extra virgin olive oil, pasteurized egg whites, as well as vinegar, mustard, garlic, onion, and spices. Now, we’re not food scientists, but we know that at least a few of those ingredients typically contain calories – and yet, keeping its promise, the nutrition label on this product says that there are none whatsoever.
So how, how have they done it? We’re not totally sure, but we suspect that there are fairly low quantities of all of these things in the product itself. We’ve also spied the presence of modified potato starch, “natural flavors,” xanthan gum, and sucralose, which we imagine will be what’s actually giving it its flavor and texture. In case you were in any doubt, this is a pretty highly processed item.
So How Does It Taste?
Personally, we’re not yet convinced that it’s any good. Over on @suppwire, an Instagram account that features and reviews supplements, some fairly hyperbolic language is used to describe the product: “The texture? Creamy. The flavor? Shockingly close. The versatility? Endless.” When you look into the comments, though, some people have pitched in with what they actually think of it…we’re not gonna quote it here, but needless to say, give that link a click above and scroll down for a perhaps more honest review.
As you might expect, this product (which is clearly meant for gym bunnies) has reached the hands of fitness influencers – and they’re not exactly giving it a glowing endorsement. On TikTok, influencer @j_jungy has reviewed the product, and he found some pretty smart ways to describe it without actually saying whether it’s any good or not. “The flavor’s not as bold as a traditional mayo, but I can definitely tell that…the mayo flavor is what they were going for,” he said. Say no more, my dude. @j_jungy did say, though, that the brand’s DRGN Chicken sauce was way more up his street, so if you want a low-calorie dip, then you might wanna start with that one.
