So, obviously, when we found out that BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse was releasing a Pepperoni Pizookie, we rolled up our sleeves and dug right in, while simultaneously trying to figure out exactly why they’ve done this. Here’s the lowdown on this odd little menu item.
April Fool’s! But Actually It’s Real
BJ’s is bringing its Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie (which is, in case you were wondering, a dessert item) to its restaurants on April 1 for one day only, when it’ll cost $4.01. The pizookie is, as you may well have figured out by now, a somewhat Frankenstein’s Monster-ish combo of pizza and cookie: It begins with a chocolate chip cookie base (which BJ’s calls a “pizookie,” but honestly, it’s just a big cookie in a deep-dish tray), to which two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream are added. Then, the whole thing is covered with cup-and-char pepperoni and Mike’s Hot Honey.
So, yes: Between the date it’s available, the price, and the ingredients, this thing is screaming “not actually a real menu item.” But it is! Incredibly, it is. “We’ve always believed that great ideas can come from unexpected places,” BJ’s Restaurants’ CMO Heidi Rogers said in a press release. “The Sweet Heat Pepperoni Pizookie is our most fearless creation yet, bringing together the warm comfort of our world famous Pizookie with flavors inspired by our revamped pizza. It’s creative, intentional, and fun – and April Fool’s Day felt like the perfect moment to launch this.” We guess if you’re going to bring an item like this out at any time, this is the day to do it.
The Pizookie: A Curious Legacy
This isn’t the first time that BJ’s has foisted its pizookie hybrids on us. Back in 2024, it debuted the Pizickle Pizookie, which combined its cookie-and-ice-cream combo with a generous handful of dill pickles (and which we’re sure that every server that worked in BJ’s absolutely hated saying out loud). Last year, it followed this one up with a Fryckle Pizookie, which featured fried pickles – and which was created in partnership with none other than Snooki.
So let there be no doubt: These are novelty items. And yet, we can’t help but be just a little bit intrigued by the Pepperoni Pizookie. Meat and cream aren’t exactly mutually exclusive, after all, and the swiciness of this menu item might just work. We doubt that people are gonna be ordering them every week (and even if they wanted to, they can’t), but hey – we’ll reserve judgment until people actually taste the damn thing.
